Freestyle Now has been rolling out the rad since 1986, that’s over 30 years of radness. Freestyle Now has had many squad members come and go over the years and our current squad roster is the raddest yet. This is our first full squad web video since 2013. The concept of the video is to show the riders and their everyday riding style. The Freestyle Now squad had a diverse range of squad members that cover many disciplines including BMX (park, street and flatland) scooter and skateboard. Inclusiveness and diversity are two of the main principals behind Freestyle Now. Freestyle Now squad injuries updates

twitterlinkedinmail

Being involved in a crazy wild sport like BMX is not always goodtimes and radness. Sometimes due to the nature of riding BMX, riders do get injured, it happens and as a rider you need to accept that at some time you will get hurt. Freestyle Now squad members Tánh Gà and David Pinelli both have recently received such injuries.
Tánh is ripping it up in Ho Chi Minh City, his home in Vietnam and recently took a heavy bail to the knee Is something like my knee got water bag inside, doctor said relax few days and check again later. 2 weeks ago I hit by pedal and ok but after 3 or 4 days my knee just swelling, for now I just picture doing tricks on new bike for later maybe I off ride a week”  Tánh will be back riding new weeks and will again be killing it for Freestyle Now, we recently hooked him up with some new Animal 4 piece bars to keep him rolling strong. Tánh is also in the middle of shooting a new video so expect to some new footage coming out of Vietnam soon.

David Pinelli is a trick slayer. He recently came back from some Freestyle Now stunt shows in Queensland and went and saw the orthopedic doctor “Hey dudes, just thought I’d give you an update on what has been going on! Back in July 2013 I competed in the fox bmx pro at rampfest in Melbourne and during my final run I landed hard on my thumb on the bars. At the time I just thought it was sprained but here I am 6 months later getting surgery for it! I just kept riding and dealt with the pain and weakness. It turns out I had fractured my thumb and torn the UCL ligament. So note to self, if it hurts… there is more than likely something wrong! Haha. Surgery on Friday then around 2-3 months till I can ride again, can’t wait!”  Check out David’s recent video he did for Enough Threads to know David rips it hard.

We wish both Tánh and David a speedy recovery and hope to see them both shredding as soon as they are healthy to get the radness flowing.
In other injury news, Kim Bloodson cracked a finger nail yesterday, when asked if he is still able to ride he responded with “yeah I got a note from mum saying it was ok”

Tánh Gà update

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad member Tánh Gà has been representing Freestyle Now in Vietnam since May 2011. Squad member Paul Chamberlain was living over there and noticed his riding style and ability and knew that he had what was needed to be a squad member. Bmx is just starting to get popular in Vietnam and it’s good to know that Tánh is one of the leaders in the scene development. Paul recently hit up Tánh with some questions to see how the scene is going.

Tanh Ga - december 2013

Paul: Since you became a member of Freestyle Now what changed in Vietnam and your life about BMX?

Tánh: Yes more people know Freestyle Now! I have to say that Freestyle Now make me feel I must ride better every day, you know that I’m just like kid and really really amazing when got sponsor from Australia. The feeling when became a member of Freestyle Now like …… You really in the game now man, have to ride better!

Tanh Ga 2 crooked grind - december 2013

Paul: When I see BMX stuff about Vietnam, it looks big. When I lived there BMX was small. What happened?

Tánh: Before I was a rider I thought BMX riders are like hero of street jumping over everything make people going crazy. So I ride for this reason. To do something different and crazy. When I started only a few riders, but now so many here.
But normal people still think the same about BMX. When you are riding here you know people think you just a crazy man with too small bike and doing some crazy shit. BMX is still strange here man. But now many guys are asking for how to get bike how to ride and do tricks. I don’t know why man. Maybe now everybody got internet and Vietnamese BMX rider start to be famous a little bit.
Have to say Vietnamese who ride BMX a lot have different life with everybody else here. We are not normal in Vietnam. Just crazy people. And because of that not too much place that we can ride in peace :)) You know about police man!

Tanh Ga 12 stair - december 2013

Paul: Yeah man, I remember that time when we heard police coming and you all threw your bikes and skateboards into bushes but I didn’t have to because I’m a foreigner. Crazy police! They don’t ask questions! Anyway, how long have you been doing X Games Day? What is it? Why do you do it?

Tanh: It started 02/06/2012. It’s a day for fun and building up the community of BMX here. Like I said, the people who not ride BMX much here think we are like BMX heroes in the street. That’s how we feel when we ride. Powerful. We can jump over everything and make people crazy -flatland too. That worked on my mind a lot. I thought, why not share the feelings of BMX with somebody else? So we did! and Xgame Day is growing bigger every time. The plan is play nice with people and play hard with police. It so hard for us to find a place for riding and skating. The police are crazy here. They don’t play!

Paul: About the future, what do you want to do in the future? New tricks? Events? Shows? Do you want to be a professional rider or have a normal job?

Tanh: Yeah, that the dream! I want to be professional man!

Paul: Maybe Freestyle Now will come to Vietnam next year. Cool right?

Tanh: Yeah sure man I tell you a 1000 times! Vietnamese like to see BMX shows! You can kick me out of Freestyle Now if Vietnamese people not gone crazy when they see you guys riding!

Tánh is a game player

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad member Tánh Gà recently was the driving force behind getting the Saigon X games Day up and rolling to help promote bmx and skateboarding throughout Saigon, his home city. The day has nothing to do with the X Games that we are so familiar with but it is a title that people in Vietnam can associate with. In Vietnam the term play bmx is used much more than ride bmx. The contest day took place at various locations around Saigon.
Tánh seems to be getting the bmx scene in Saigon cranking hard. From organizing the first SXD (Saigon X games Day) with support from UFO Streetwear and LightFest the offers from others sources are now wanting to help out with the next SXD that are being planned. The day got some magazine coverage and the video below is super rad. All of this coverage will no doubt assist with generating more hype for the upcoming events.

This is what Tánh has to say “1 year I got 4 contests, that is everything player want, funny contest for beginner and really contest for real player. Waiting for clip Saigon X-game day and use that for find more sponsor. So when finish the 1st x-game day, much of people like it. Now I work in Jett Cycles bike shop and many kids come and say I see you in X-game day and want ridding too. Some guy wants to make for us website for community x-gamer. So that’s all and trying to better at everything riding, better event After contest, I dream got enough sponsor to build the halfpipe, what do you think?”
We think it’s so rad to have a day like this out in the streets promoting what we all live for, Tánh has the true essence of the Freestyle Now sprit.
