Tánh Gá update

Freestyle Now international rider Tánh Gá lives in Hồ Chí Minh City in Vietnam. He rides with a crew named I.C.B. (I Can’t Brake). These guys ride hard and go through parts rather quickly. A few months ago Tánh informed Freestyle Now that his bike was damaged with bent and cracked handle bars, striped out bottom bracket and a rear axle snapped. The riders in Vietnam can’t just go down to the local bike shop and pick up new stuff and the cost to get products sent there is rather costly to the rider. Since Tánh is on the Freestyle Now squad we sent him over some new parts along with a few extra bits for the I.C.B crew to help keep them riding. Once Tanh got his bike together the first thing that he did was get a quick riding session going, this is what he had to say along with a few photos from the session.

Thank you from Freestyle Now for new parts …. We have to work now, me and Phuoc are fixing coffee shop. This is the place we can ride some time like ……performance cuz the boss like BMX, haha that good! Who know?! Anyway we done I think. Now we riding back! Thank freestyle now.

Freestyle now turns 25 years old today.

It is our birthday today. Freestyle Now officially turns 25 years old today. Freestyle Now was formed in the later parts of 1986 with our first stunt shows taking place in December of that year. Many riders have come and gone since then but the core ingredient has always stayed, the promotion of BMX freestyle riding. Although Freestyle Now has branched out into other realms such as skatepark competition management and coaching workshops it is BMX that started it all. Over the next year Freestyle Now will be working on a few projects to celebrate our 25th anniversary.
The below photos are from the Freestyle Now squad’s third event appearance took place in March 1987 at the Fremantle Speed Classic (an old time car drag race). Click here to have a look at our past show history.

Freestyle Now Canberra road trip

Towards the end of November Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Shaun Jarvis headed from Sydney to Canberra to host a bmx, skate and scooter competition at the Tuggeranong skatepark. Bullmix Billy came along to enjoy the good times as well and get some filming done. The guys also headed out to a Jam at Queanbeyan and hit up Belconnen skatepark. There was some precipitation during the trip but riding still went on no matter what the weather was or the location. Enjoy the video and freestyle now …… before it’s too late.

Behind the Bars – show 1

The wait is finally over.

The first episode of Behind the Bars has been released upon the new internet savvy world. The year was 2001 and Freestyle Now founding squad member Shaun Jarvis along with squad member Jason Parker set out to produce at TV show for community television in Perth Western Australia. The show focused on the BMX scene in Perth. This is the first show from 9 that we produced. Each episode was broadcast every month, so filming, editing and producing the shows was an extremely timed task. Having no experience in video work the learning curve rose sharply with each new episode. If you want to do something there is nothing holding you back, put your mind to it and you can do anything even produce a TV show. So after 10 years it’s now time to unleash them again to the world via the internet.
Freestyle Now will be releasing an episode every month so keep posted and enjoy the show.

Paul Chamberlain wins DownUnderGround 2011

The finals of the Newcircle DownUnderGround national bmx flatland contest series took place in Melbourne one the 21st of August at the Aus bike expo. The contest was a great event with riders traveling from all over Australia and some from around the world. Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Shaun Jarvis were at the contest riding in the pro and advanced classes respectively. The two riders rode really well throughout the competition with both riders making it through to the finals in their classes. Paul took out the second place but he won the year end title for the series. Shaun qualified in 2nd place but felt the pressure a bit much and missed a few tricks in his final runs, taking out the 4th place and ended up with a 2nd in the 2011 contest series. Congratulation to both riders for all their great efforts in progressing with their riding.

Shaun Jarvis from Melbourne

Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis and Paul Chamberlain are now in Melbourne and getting ready for the finals of the DownUnderGround taking place on Sunday 21st August. Shaun sent in a few words and photos to share about what has been going on.

“Hey all having a blast in Melbourne at the moment. I got in on Wednesday morning and just chilled for the day. Thursday I had to head off to do a small demo at Port Phillip Primary school. It was crazy with a stack of school kids chanting BMX, BMX, BMX, BMX, BMX, for about 2 minutes, it was well rad. Then got to ride around Melbourne for a bit with Greg barns and Cal. Ended up at the Imax for a ride after picking up Eiji Kataka from Japan who has been working up in Kununurra from the train station. Friday me and Eiji had to head to the city to meet Tomy Idler who had flown in from Germany on a 25 hour flight. We all went back to Phillip Fruh’s house where we are staying and then back to the city to ride at the Imax spot again. From there we went to watch fellow Western Australian bmxer Kim Johnson play a solo gig at the Pony bar. It was so rad as he had written a special song just for the occasion called “B4 it’s too late” with a stack of Freestyle Now reference in there. A BMX moment at its finest. Tomorrow is Saturday and there will be a big jam at Imax with a stack of riders from around Australia and various locations from the world. And Sunday is the finals of the DownUnderGround which I’m really looking forward to. Cheers to all and do like ya mum said, play with the other kids nicely”
