Behind the Bars – Show 6

It’s that time of the month again for another episode of “Behind the Bars” to be released. In 2001 squad members Shaun Jarvis and Jason Parker  produced a T.V. show called “Behind the Bars”. It was broadcast on community television in Perth Western Australia and it focused on the BMX scene in Perth. With no video production skills the two guys just went at it, they knew what they wanted to achieve and set about doing just that. This is a good example that you can do whatever you want as long as you put your mind to it. There is nothing holding you back, only you. the only experience these guys has was what they created. With only that experience to guide them in production the two guys set out to get another show set and done, show 6. So after 10 years it’s now time to unleash the final show in the series via the internet. There are still three more shows to be published on the net so stayed tuned for them over the next few months. You can check out the “Behind the Bars” page here to see all the episodes. Enjoy.

BMX for FLOODS

Today marks the one year anniversary of the BMX for FLOODS jam. Australia wide, 9 locations, one jam, one day.
The objective of BMX for FLOODS was to raise money for the Premiers disaster relief fund for the victims of the Queensland floods that happened in January 2011. The BMX for FLOODS jam was the brain child of Freestyle Now squad member Shaun Jarvis who wanted to organize something for the people affected by the floods. The national jam took in every state and territory around Australia with 9 locations. There is a long list of people who contributed to the organizing of the jams around Australia to make them so successful, so a big thankyou to everyone and anyone who was involved in the events. BMX for FLOODS rose just over $12500 from donations and the auctioning of product donated from companies. Check out the official website to see some of the information surrounding the national event.
While in Tasmania for the jam Shaun Jarvis did a video interview with the ABC. Click here for the link.
There are a few videos on line from many of the locations but the below video is from the Canberra BMX for FLOODS jam. A big thanks to the guys at Back Bone Bmx for hooking that one up.

DownUnderGround – Australian bmx flatland contest series

It’s almost that time to roll flat out again. The new series of the DownUnderGround is about to start up with round one kicking things off in Sydney on the 25th of February. The day itself will no doubt be one heck of a rad time. With riders from all over converging on the Summer Hill location to partake in some flatland action as well as many riders hitting the skatepark next to the flatland contest site. To encourage some of them skatepark/street riders over to the flatside there will be a special class for the best non flatland flatland trick (many park and street riders don’t know but they actually ride a fair bit of flatland). Freestyle Now will be supporting the contest along with a list of others so check the promo flyer.
Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Shaun Jarvis will be in full force at the contest to bring the some FN radness.
Have a watch of the video below from the previous DownUnderGround at Summer Hill from round 3 of last series.

Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad – South Perth Australia Day Celebrations

Australia Day in Perth had one of the most bizarre weather patterns that many have seen for a long time. The Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad had a big day on this day. In the morning they performed some morning stunt shows in Gosnells before they headed over to the South Perth Australia Day celebrations on the Swan River foreshore. It was hot even in the morning, but more heat was to come, the thermometer maxed out at 42 degrees. Liquid was being consumed at a very rapid rate. With the ramps all set it was time to get the bmx shows rolling. The heat defiantly was a large factor in the low numbers attending the Perth Australia Day celebrations fireworks all around the Swan River.
Although it was so hot that did not slow down the Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad performances. A total of 6 shows were performed before nature unleashed its own fireworks. As the sky was getting darker and darker the temperature was still staying at a steady HOT. As time was moving forward the sky was dark from the clouds not from the onset of night. As the fireworks started, so too did natures fireworks. There was lightning going in all directions and rain bucketing down. The temperature did come down some but it remained hot well into the night. Australia Day 2012 most definitely did have the most bizarre weather that Perth has seen in many years.
