Freestyle Now Canberra road trip

Towards the end of November Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Shaun Jarvis headed from Sydney to Canberra to host a bmx, skate and scooter competition at the Tuggeranong skatepark. Bullmix Billy came along to enjoy the good times as well and get some filming done. The guys also headed out to a Jam at Queanbeyan and hit up Belconnen skatepark. There was some precipitation during the trip but riding still went on no matter what the weather was or the location. Enjoy the video and freestyle now …… before it’s too late.

A travelled man he is – Shaun Jarvis checks in

Freestyle Now head honcho gives a check in about his latest travels

“Hey all, just got back from a east coast trip the other day. When to Sydney and then to Canberra to host the comp there at the Tuggeranong skatepark. The trip was epic. So much happened and went on that I will just give you a few of the high lights.
Game of bmx with the Hell on Wheels crew on Thursday night, most fun I’ve had on a bike for a long time.
Late night hotel riding session, it was raining outside.
Riding Belconnen skatepark, so large that I rode around it for 15 minutes just looking at everything.
Hitting up the jam at Queanbeyan on the Saturday.
Having a fit of laughter at 3am in the morning after thinking about the game of Updog we played earlier.
Hanging out at Back Bone Bmx.
Mad feasts at Au Luc every night.
Seeing Tyson Jones-Peni shred Tuggeranong park.
Getting to hang out with Paul Chamberlain and Billy Yonaire.

Salutations to everyone I meet and rode with on the trip. I’m back in Perth now for some time now which is good so I can get back into a riding schedule on I’ve got my new rig all set up and rolling sweet.

A travelled man he is – Shaun Jarvis checks in

Freestyle Now head honcho Shaun Jarvis gives a check in about his latest travels.

“Over the last week I’ve been in Queensland for some stunt shows in Blackwater. The trip out there was epic. I flew to Brisbane with Phillip Marshall and meet up with fellow squad member Paul Chamberlain, good mate Michael Bayzand and Brisbane skate shredder Pedro Day at the Brisbane airport Friday morning, ready to fly to Rockhampton. Upon arrival after a hire car mix up (never book a hire car with a company you don’t know no matter what their website says) we were on the road to Blackwater. It was hot. Not long on the road we saw smoke ahead in the distance, there was some major burn off taking place. Through the smoke and onto the other side to find a smoke infused whirlwind. Defiantly the most bizarre thing we had all seen for a long time. Blackwater is a small town 200kms west from Rockhampton and their skatepark is quite old. It was build fairly rough with some of the flatbanks well sharp at the bottom. The Friday was the first ride I had on my new bike so everything was settling in still but it was ok. Friday night was an early one with all tired from the journey. Saturday was going to be a late start so we made good use of our time and headed out to the Blackdown tablelands. After a 1 hour drive and a 30 minute walk we got to the Rainbow Falls. We all had a swim and some chill time, it was great to be in some natural surroundings. The trek back was a hot one. The demos were great. The locals were defiantly digging it and the local bmxers are a great bunch of dudes. The demos just turned into a big jam session at the end. Local bmxer Jeremy invited us over to his house to chill with the locals and a few ciders were downed. Sunday it was off to Rockhampton to get a ride in before we flew out. The large park we went to was covered in glass, it was literally everywhere, so it was off to session a small park not too far away. A decent session transpired, although it was so hot, with some Rockhampton locals as well as a few of the riders from Blackwater. It was then back to Brisbane to where we all parted ways and I stayed on in Brisbane for a few days of R&R (relax and riding) I spent the next 3 days just chillin out, drinking coffee, getting my new bike dialled in (thanks to Lux bmx) and riding with the Brisbane flatland crew (Roni, Brett and Shane). I’m home now but getting ready to head over to Sydney and drive to Canberra with Paul Chamberlain for the Tuggeranong comp on the 27th November. That trip should be a smashing one for sure, till then getitinya.”

The adventures of Kash man and T Banger continue

Freestyle Now squad member Tim Rose sent in these few words and a few photos from his recent trip in America with fellow squad member Kie Ashworth and good friend Jake Coreless

“Hey all, after hitting trails for two weeks we packed up the jeep n headed south to Philadelphia. Weather had gotten pretty sour at this point, and we were able to witness some crazy mid October snow storm breaking a 32 year record or something!! After a quick look on Google we found FDR was a 4 km ride from our hotel, blessed with some amazing weather we spent a few days riding street in Philly. Kie’s good mate Tom White was pretty much our tour guide taking us around to some awesome spots. Once again we hit the road and made the 7 hour drive to Cleveland Ohio, hitting an indoor park named Rays MTB Park. This place is massive so many different things to ride you can get lost there, one of the locals showed us a room full of box jump rhythms that we hadn’t found yet. This is where our trip unfolded. Jake got a little loose on one of the lines there and got pitched over the bars straight into another bmx jump lip! Took a really hard slam! and got knocked out for over 1min and with his hand looking pretty bad, a trip the emergency room was made. A couple of hours and the news was surgery. We all decided making the trip back home was definitely going to be the better option. So we hauled ass back to New York. Not being able to get a flight straight away we spent the last days of our trip walking around the city checking out all the land marks. The place is absolutely massive and absolutely amazing! Was sad to leave, but we’ll be back next year. The trip was a blast, thanks to everyone who helped us out along the way”

Freestyle Now BMX stunt squad – Margaret River agricultural show

The weekend of the 22nd of October the Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad headed down to Margaret River to attend the Margaret River Agricultural show to perform some BMX stunt shows. Squad member Shaun Jarvis flowed some words and photos from the weekend,

“Hey all, the Margaret River show was a hoot. Friday afternoon once the ramps were hitched up to the FN wagon Dave Pinelli, Michael Bayzand and me set off to pick up Dylan Schmidt along the freeway and then we were south bound. First stop was Gelorup for a quick session at the skatepark and then to eaten by midges on our departure. Busselton was our next destination. Bryn Weinman was letting us stay at his house for the night. Although he was out at his graduation dinner we couldn’t get to his till really late so a rad session went down at Busselton skatepark after an awesome meal at one of the local pubs.
Come Saturday morning it was off to Margaret River for the show with extra guest rider, Bryn. On my first bit of warm up for the shows I ended up snapping my frame. Not a good thing while in show mode but things happen. To get the show done I had to carry my bike to the top of the ramp to get the jump over part of the show done, it’s all good thou as all the shows got done with the crowds giving much applause and cheers. We had time during the breaks in the shows to go and session the skatepark. Was really bummed my frame had snapped as it was a fun session. Anyway we rocked out hard at the Margaret River show, it was awesome. That night we headed back to the house of Bryn. The next morning it was back yard ramp session time but as my bike was screwed I dint get to have a roll, didn’t really matter as I had to wait out the front for the RAC as Michael so conveniently locked the keys in the car. There always comes a time for fun to be over and that time came so it was then pile in and get going back to Perth. Big thanks to the Weinman family for letting us crash at their house and to the riders on the trip for getting their rad on.”

Clockwise from top left – David Pinelli at Gelorup – Shaun Jarvis smiths the ledge at B-town park – David get his nozzys on – Good friend of Freestyle Now Callum McCauley cam and hung out and videoed the shows.

Clockwise from top left – Dylan Schmidt took advantage of the down ramp from team FMX who were also at the Margaret River show for FMX stunt shows, whip jam – David and Shaun during the show – Michael Bayzand gets two feet in the air but both on one side of the bike, no foot can can – This is a 360 from David Pinelli.

Clockwise from top left – this jump is nothing for Michael Bayzand – Shaun and Dylan with some crazy action – Dylan throws a nacnac 360 – David clicks a 360 lookback, right and tight.

David Pinelli grabs his seat and stretches his legs and strikes a superman seat grab pose.

Bryn Weinman super whips are awesome.

David Pinelli has some serious dipped 360.

The adventures of Kash man and T Banger

Freestyle Now squad members Tim Rose and Kie Ashworth along with good friend Jake Coreless are settling into the travel life in America. Tim Rose sent in a few words and photos about what’s been going on in the last few weeks.

The trip so far is going great. The flight over here was one of the best we’ve had, got given some sleeping tablets and we were out cold for like 7 hours, definitely killed some time. Landed in NY with nowhere to go so we took some shuttle bus to a cheap hotel, and the fight to get over jet lag began but it took about 3 nights and we were all pretty well good. We spent a couple of days working out the NY subway, if you think Sydney is bad this thing is ridiculous. We ended up being lost countless times all fun though. Went and checked out B and H camera wholesale in NY were we all spent a lot of money. We navigated our way to the new Animal warehouse over in jersey, awesome bunch of guys. The next day we were on a 4 hour greyhound bus ride to Binghamton in upstate NY to FBM to be reunited with our stallion from our last US trip. One new battery and some oil and the jeep fired up after sitting there for 2 years. Filled her up and headed to Bethlehem P.A. to ride Posh. We got to Bethlehem and went and rode a library but later found out there a $1000 fine for being there. We got over to Posh, and man them guys have done an amazing job keeping those trails in perfect shape. I’ve never ridden anything like it. You sit up the top pick your line and just hold on, 20 ft sets are effortless. We all rode till dark and helped the guys tarp up for the coming rain and headed over to Penn skate to ride an indoor park. This place houses the old little devil bowl, definitely a cool experience riding that, so many lines. So far we have rode some amazing places, had some amazing steaks and having a hell of a time.

It is autumn here now and the scenery is amazing.
Until next time, peace
