The Western Australian BMX freestyle state championships took place at the Bayswater skatepark as the final competition of 2024. On a beautiful hot sunny december day the bayswater skatepark witnessed some great bmx skills on display. With the whole skatepark to be used there was a great diverse range of riding from the competitors. Some of the highlights from the day was 5 year old Hux Bradley powering around the park in their first competition. He was helped by his brother who rode next to him to help ease the nerves and boost his confidence. Taking the win in the under 11’s was Ilay Godfrey who was not going to miss this day no matter what happened. His unique style and crazy supermans helped him take the win. Bayswater local and young radster Jayce Blakers did what Jayce does best, threw down some radical riding and took the win the under 13’s category. Jayce is hungry for more and it shows in his thirst for skills. Making the trip from Geraldton Koutaro Furukawa went home with the gold in the under 15’s with some great barspins and tailwhips along with this flow and consistency gave him the points needed. The over 15’s was the one to watch with some great riding for all. In 1st it was all Oskar Thomas who had the skills and the consistency to get the points. Expect to see his name at the top of the results and more competitions. The silver went to Maison Russel, another rider we have been seeing more of at recent competitions. Good speed and flow from him. Third was Jay Furukawa who had travelled from Geraldton with his brother. Jay rides wide open with lots of power and sends casual 720’s. The over 30’s class had Josh Dunston take home the gold. Josh has been living in New Zealand for over 10 years and has returned to Western Australia. It was good to have him back and to see some crazy riding like a double handed front pag grab and nose pick to bar spin on the spine. Bayswater legend Ryan Aqulina went home with the 2nd place. Ryan has been riding at Bayswater since the old Bayswater skatepark was built back in the beginning of the 2000’s. Always rad to see him riding and hitting rails. 3rd place in the over 30’s went to 56 year old Freestyle Now co-founder and CEO Shaun Jarvis with his unique riding style.

The Western Australian BMX freestyle state championships was a great way to finish up the 2024 competition calendar. We would like to thank all the competitors and spectators who attended. Looking forward to the 2025 state championships and to see the progression of the riders.
