The Fremantle BMX and Scooter Skatepark Competition at Esplanade Youth Plaza delivered a wicked evening of BMX and scooter action that brought the community together in an atmosphere of excitement and progression. Thanks to the support of the City of Fremantle, riders of all skill levels had the chance to throw down their best tricks in a competition that showcased their talent, determination, and passion for skatepark culture.

Competitors faced off in a unique two-round format, curated specifically for the unique layout of the Fremantle skatepark. Their skills were tested in both the street and bowl sections of the park. Each rider had one minute to make their mark in each round, with scores from both runs combined to determine their overall scores. It wasn’t just about big tricks; it was about putting together smooth, consistent runs with technical difficulty and creative lines to impress the judges and the crowd alike.

The scooter division saw fierce battles from start to finish. In the beginner class, Curtis Gepp led the charge with confidence, taking first place and setting the tone for a field of eager riders who brought their best. Followed closely by a repeat competitor, Thomas Hollingsworth, who has remained on the podium in either scooter or BMX at all of our summer competitions. In third place we had another familiar face, Calais Blakers, it has been great to see Calais’ determination increase and his progression shine through. The intermediate riders didn’t hold back, with the second half of the Blakers brothers, Jayce,  throwing down some big hitters including a backflip and a flare, making him a hard competitor to beat and scoring him first place. Kodi Weston pulled through with second place after an awesome display of his skill in the street section and a consistent bowl run. Seeing Kodi climb the ladder to the podium over the last few competitions has been awesome and we are excited to see him continue the progression. Third place was Chevy Smaller who always brings huge energy to our competitions, he rides hard and is a very fun competitor to watch. The open division was a spectacle of skill and control, with Lucas Lenane dominating the rail, ramps, and bowl with some very technical skill and clean, clean runs. Hoping to see Lucas at more competitions in the future. Nathan Jones made an appearance and came away with second after a radical display of skill that definitely caught the judges attention. Awesome to see Brandon Black on the podium after months of competing in our competitions,  he landed some very clean tricks and put together a couple of solid lines, it’s no surprise he was able to come away with third place.

BMX riders delivered an unforgettable show, with each division pushing the limits of creativity and flow. In the beginner division, Garnet Rock showed great control and commitment, earning first place with solid lines and smooth combos. Blade Coleman came away with second place, awesome to see him involved and competing and making great use of the course available in both street and bowl. In third place we saw Logan Knibbs with lines full of charge and originality, Logan wowed the judges with creativity, executing a perfect seat stand. The intermediate riders kept the energy high, with Jayce Blakers once again impressing and taking the win. This multi talented rider has a bright future ahead of him and we are excited to see what he achieves. Charlie Hill followed closely in second, he has been a regular lately at our competitions and watching him progress has been a treat. Timothy Pearson came in third and it was rad to see him execute the 540 in a competition, not once but twice! We know he has been working on that trick tirelessly. The open class saw a standout performance from Louis Johnstone, a seasoned rider with flow that can only be achieved by riding consistently for years. Daniel Cowell took second place, good to see him back competing in our competitions and putting his skills on display. Kody Strong came through with third, after an awesome show of skill, with a huge flare in the bowl to solidify his spot on the podium.

Throughout the event, the park echoed with the sound of wheels, pegs, and decks grinding and sliding, as riders put it all on the line for the love of their action sport. Skatepark competitions like this are a celebration of community and the passion that unites riders. The crowd participation and spectators were on a new level at Fremantle, the crowds drawing more people down to the esplanade to see what all the action was about, this definitely added to the energy of the evening. A huge thanks to the City of Fremantle for supporting the event and to everyone who participated or came out to cheer on the action. Congratulations to all the competitors who took part — it was a day of incredible riding and great vibes. Stay tuned for more competitions and events in the future!
