The crew set out for our final skatepark competition of the dry season, south of the river at Cooloongup Skatepark. Thanks to the City of Rockingham, Freestyle Now was able to put on another wicked event and provide a space for community connection, action sports progression and a whole lot of radical fun. The local crew knew it was our last competition for a little while due to it being the final standing competition on our Liveheats system, and so of course they turned out for it. With over 55 competitors the day was brimming with talent and good times.

All of our beginner divisions were the largest of each discipline, it’s wicked to see a passion for action sports in the younger generations. We kicked the day off with scooter beginner and saw Curtis Gepp at the top again, after his recent victory at the Balga Skatepark Competition. Curtis has very smooth lines and the ability to utilise the skatepark to his advantage, putting his best tricks on display and securing him the win. In second place, just over 2 points behind was Thomas Hollingsworth and in third place, Levi Rasulov. Into intermediate we saw Kirill Ashchepkov take the win followed by Flynn Read in second and Cruz West in third with less than a point between them. In open Brandon Black stood on the top of the podium, Brandon has clearly been putting in the work between competitions, his tricks always more dialled than at the last comp, setting him apart from the others. Brandon is also sitting at the top of our 2025 Skatepark Series, attending all 10 of the competitions included thus far.  Less than 1 point away in second place was Adrian Tognini who put up a good fight and in third we saw Austin English who made great use of the skatepark.

Clockwise from top left – Kirill Ashchepkov, 1st place winner in intermediate scooter. – Tyson Miles with an awesome tyre grab. – Alice Bouwer showing off some seriously wicked nose manuals. – Otis Park with some out of the box trickery. For the full album from this day check out our facebook here

Skateboard beginner was another large group, with young Opal Harrington coming out on top. Opal has been working hard behind the scenes to diversify her trickery and it was brilliant to witness her execute multiple riverdances throughout her run. Following closely behind we had Nyah Gutcheon and in third, climbing the leader board was Logan Carter. Between these three was less than 1 point.. Making it an extremely tight competition. In skateboard intermediate it was Liam Davie who came out on top, Liam rides with power and precision and it has been great to see him more recently at our competitions. Following closely behind in second was another regular, Scarlette Harrington. Scarlette has recently moved up into Intermediate and we are so stoked to see her progressing in this way and challenging herself. She remains on the podium so clearly is right where she needs to be. Rolling into third place was Charlie Boulton. Skateboard open only had two competitors but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a fun watch. In first place was Oliver Lane who was  showcasing out of the box tricks as usual and coming out on top. And following in second was Geoff Knibbs, a regular at all of our competitions, supporting his son Logan Knibbs in BMX first and foremost, but enjoying some competition fun himself along the way.

BMX beginners was another large group of talented riders. In first place was Tyson Miles, pulling off a wicked run and catching the judges attention. Following extremely closely behind in second was Jax Baker and in 3rd place was Garnet Rock with high hairs and power. Between these three there was less than 1 point, again making it a tight competition. Special mention to Lachlan Mcgough who came 8th, his run was very original, showing a trick we had never seen before, pedal spin. This trick actually inspired a few other competitors in other divisions. In Intermediate we saw Liam Rhodes take out first place, Liam has definitely been putting in the effort and it shows in his riding. Charlie hHill followed in second and we have to say it’s a very similar story for him, putting in the work and reaping the rewards, his riding keeps becoming more and more dialled each time we witness it. And in third place was Thomas Hollinsworth who managed to make the podium in both scooter and BMX divisions on this day, a great achievement. Into the open division Oskar Thomas took the win, and rightfully so. We were stoked to see him at this competition, throwing down tricks new and old. Following closely behind was Kody Strong, Kody put out some big tricks like foot jams and flares and nailed them. In third place was crowd favourite, Joshua O’Neil. Josh always gives it his all and it definitely shows. A shout out to Brandon Black who made a surprise appearance in BMX, we knew he killed it on the scooter but we had no idea he also had so much skill on his BMX. Great day of riding for Brandon across both divisions.

Overall, the Cooloongup Skatepark Competition was a wicked day, our competitors and their supporters really turned it out and with the help of The City of Rockingham and their community support we managed to facilitate a radical day of community fun, activation and engagement.
