Port Bound youth festival 2013

twitterlinkedinmail

At the beginning of April Freestyle Now squad members Dylan Schmidt, Tim Rose, Shaun Jarvis and Kie Ashworth headed to the northwest of Australia. Port Hedland was the first stop to host a skatepark coaching session and to perform some bmx stunt shows at the Port Bound youth festival. On the Friday the squad was at the South Hedland skatepark for come coaching sessions with the locals. The Saturday was show time at the festival with some great entertainment going down throughout the day. The Port Bound festival is always a great day out for many, and this year the festival was packed. It was a bit slow to start with, but that is to be expected due to the overwhelming heat of the day. Later in the afternoon it picked up with one of the best turnout the festival has seen. On the Sunday the squad drove over to Karratha to host a skatepark competition. On the Monday it was time to return to home but not before hitting up some of the Karratha locals dirt jumps. Shaun Jarvis had this to say about the trip. “The 4 days seemed like a week. We did so much it was straight up another amazing trip. So good to travel with a great crew, it was fun and we had an amazing time. Being on the road getting out there and meeting new people is the best. Travelling with this crew is great, couldn’t ask for a better lot of guys to be travelling with and performing shows. Good times forever”

Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Billy Brooks along with good friend Kit McKenna, recently did a road trip of great proportion. They had been talking about it for months, to cycle from Christchurch to Queenstown in New Zealand, a journey just under 500kilomerters. Billy being the videographer that he is has put together this great edit of the trip, highlighting all the goodness that could only be done on such an epic adventure. Upon their return both Paul and Bill had destroyed their rear hubs, a small price to pay for such a good time. Paul sent in a few updates of the trip that you can check. Update 1. Update 2. Update 3

While Freestyle Now was in Darwin for the Palmerston skatepark competition squad member Shaun Jarvis along with all round good guy Billy Brooks spent some time sightseeing and riding. They journeyed out with Local rider Dave Ormie to Litchfield national park to swim at Buley rock hole and to see Florence Falls. Much thanks to Dave for his hospitality. On their last day the two guys went street riding and beach riding, and then trekked off to go dirt jumping with a bunch of the Darwin locals at some private dirt jumps. Darwin is an awesome place to roll to.

Behind the Bars – Show 9

twitterlinkedinmail

And now for the final installment of the 9 episode series of “Behind the Bars” . this series of shows was produced by Freestyle Now of community television. The shows focused on the BMX scene in Perth and was produced during 2001 to 2002. Behind the Bars was started when Shaun Jarvis said to Jason Parker “Do you want to do a T.V. show”. So only armed with their idea and no experience in video production or even computer skills, the two Freestyle Now squad members set to task to produce the series. With each episode having to be broadcast every month the schedule of filming, editing and producing was an extremely timed task. At the end of show six the format was changed up a bit with the introduction of Andrew Romano and Paul Elwin in to the presentation. These two guys worked behind the scenes during the previous six shows.
So it’s been about 10 years since the shows went to air and now they are all up on line for the masses to see once more. If you would like to check out the previous episodes check the “Behind the Bars” page here .Enjoy

Going to be doing a lot of touristy stuff but will definitely be riding as much as possible so keen on more good weather and trails! I’ll keep ya posted on my travels. Cheers.”

Recently we found out that his birthday just so happens to coincide with one of the first Demos Freestyle Now had done. It’s a fair call to say that Tim Rose and Freestyle Now are about the same age. Tim sent through this video that he put together of day at the trails with fellow riders Sebbi and Rory. Get back to the origins of BMX and build some jumps. Enjoy.
