On Friday 14th March the skatepark will come alive when the scooter qualifying rounds start with the top ten riders all earning a place in the Sunday finals where they will all share in the $3300 prize money. The scooter competition is an International Scooter Association  world title wild card entry competition. This means that the winner of this competition wins a direct placing into the scooter world titles that will take place in England later in the year.
Saturday morning 15th March the bmx qualifying starts. The top ten riders will all receive a placing into the finals on Sunday and chase their share of the $4250 prize money The bmx qualifying we be followed by the skateboard qualifying where a jam format will take place to find the top 9 who will again be ready for the skatepark finals on Sunday 16th March and share in the $4250 prize money.Mandurah Action Sports Games 2014
At 3pm on Saturday with all of the qualifying over it will be time for the skateboarders and the bmxers to start up the halfpipe battle jam. Each of these disciplines has a $4250 purse to share in. With four rounds to get through is going to be a tough to make it through to the end of the jam. The battle jam is where competitors take turns on the halfpipe and throw down what they have got. The judges decide who is remaining on the top of their game and who is staying the raddest. At the end of each round competitors are dropped with only the raddest remaining to battle on again until a winner is decided. It is real mind blowing action as the competitors, the announcers and the spectators all play a role in the battle jam.
On Sunday 16th March is finals day. With scooter, bmx and skateboard all rolling it out for the big bucks this day will be the ultimate day to see some of Australia’s top professionals lay it all on the line. A day you don’t want to miss.

Australind skatepark fundraiser

twitterlinkedinmail

At the beginning of February Freestyle Now was stoked to be involved with the Australind skatepark fundraiser. Australind is a growing community about 150kms south of Perth. They have an old ramp set up skatepark. Its small and not all that great, but any ramps are better than no ramps. A group of local skatepark users led by scooter rider Nigel Heidt and mum Sabine Heidt got a group together and took on the council to ask for an upgrade. With a council meeting and forever growing support the council approved for a new 1.35 million dollar skatepark to be built. The only catch is the community needs to raise $50000 to help. Skateparks are not cheap. So the Australind skatepark fundraiser day was set up to start with this.

It was a great day with the community coming out with full support. With massages, food stalls, auctions, donation and an assortment of other means a total of $1750 was raised. This may not seem much but this event is the start and with this will come more community support and donations from business. Go visit the bigger and better Australind skatepark facebook page for all the newest info or to show your support. Once the new park is constructed it will be amazing, with it being a great stop over on the way down south to the plethora of other skateparks in the region. Thank you to all of the people who showed up rode, blasted and supported.

Random Freestyle Now video

twitterlinkedinmail

A few months Freestyle Now squad members Jason Parker and Shaun Jarvis went for a night time ride around their home city of Perth with good friend Mike Brandt. The riders rode at various spots including the Perth cultural centre. It’s a nice spot with a good vibe but the surface is a bit left to be desired. Some random dude came up and asked if he can film the riders as he got a new camera and wanted to try it out. The guys never thought anything of it, months past until we received an email from Damian Hoskin who was stoked to have put the video together and upload it. Thank you Damian for your randomness.

Australind is a growing community about 150kms south of Perth. Their skatepark is of a very poor quality and the community has gained council approval for a new 1.35 million dollar skatepark to be built. The only catch is the community needs to raise $50000 to help. Freestyle Now is happy to get involved to help out. This will be only one of many jams that they will hold to assist with gaining funds to help. Support for this is needed from many participants, even if you were to come down and hang out and just get involved in any of the other activities or just drop by and donate some cash. Remember many people will come to the new skatepark once built and enjoy it but will you be able to say that you actually helped? Everyone wants a new park and new places to shred but you have to work for them. Come on down for the day to show your support as the new park once constructed will be amazing with it being a great stop over on the way down south to the plethora of other skateparks in the region.

DownUnderGround Round 1 Sydney January 2013

twitterlinkedinmail

The DownUnderGround national bmx flatland contest series has been kicking it around Australia since 2008. Freestyle Now is proud to be one of the main supporters of the contest series. In January round 1 of series 5 took place in Sydney. It was a crazy weekend. Lots of good times with many friends from around Australia and the world. The day before the contest Sydney had one of the hottest days on record topping at 45.8 degrees. On top of that it poured down with rain on the same afternoon. On the day of the contest it was hot and half way through the day the contest was put on hold while the rain came down. Freestyle Now Squad members Paul Chamberlain, Shaun Jarvis, Jason Parker  and Billy Brooks  all attended the contest. Here is the contest video all shot and edits by our resident video main man Billy Brooks. Enjoy.

Kie Ashworth has been on the Freestyle Now squad since late 2005. His ability on a bike is absolutely amazing. He rides and hangs out with a good crew of riders in the southern parts of Perth. Sion Bourne has been documenting these riders in a series of videos. Round 3 out it is without a doubt one of the radest videos to be posted up on line for a long time. Great production and amazing riding. Check out the video to see Kie rolling hard along with some of his good friends hitting it hard.
