DownUnderGround round 1 video

twitterlinkedinmail

The Australian flatland scene is relativity small in proportion with our population. With this small community comes a close nit group of riders who are always willing to travel to ride with other flatland riders. Round 1 of series 6 of DownUnderGround, the national bmx flatland contest, took place in Sydney in mid January. It was by far one of the best contests that Australia has seen in a while with a great turn out and plenty of goodtimes. Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain, Shaun Jarvis and Jason Parker  were there to throw down with Paul taking the win in the pro class and Shaun placing 3rd in the advanced class. Check out the video put together by good friend Will Herrmann to see all of the contest highlights as well as Pauls last combo which was the run of the day. Thanks for the support from Freestyle Now, Colony BMX, 2020 BMX Mag, as well as Hell on Wheels bike shop.

Random Freestyle Now video

twitterlinkedinmail

A few months Freestyle Now squad members Jason Parker and Shaun Jarvis went for a night time ride around their home city of Perth with good friend Mike Brandt. The riders rode at various spots including the Perth cultural centre. It’s a nice spot with a good vibe but the surface is a bit left to be desired. Some random dude came up and asked if he can film the riders as he got a new camera and wanted to try it out. The guys never thought anything of it, months past until we received an email from Damian Hoskin who was stoked to have put the video together and upload it. Thank you Damian for your randomness.

Paul Chamberlain wins at DownUnderGround

twitterlinkedinmail

Last weekend in Sydney saw DownUnderGround the national bmx flatland contest series kicked off with round 1 taking place in Bondi. Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain, Shaun Jarvis and Jason Parker attended the contest along with a good number of other flatland riders from around Australia. The contest was one of the best that Australian flatland has seen in a good number of years with good rider turn out and the level of riding being pushed. The weekend saw a lot of riding being done and fun and goodtimes were one of the main objectives. Jason Parker and Shaun Jarvis competed in the advanced class with Shaun taking out 3rd place with a good solid 1st run apart from just two touches. Jason took out the 5th placing on the day with the usual Jason style. The day belonged to Paul Chamberlain who took out the 1st place in the pro class, with some dialed riding. His second run was the one that sealed his win. Super consistent with an amazing long link that he has only ever pulled 3 times, two times only days before the contest and in his contest run. The day was perfect, sunny and hot and being in Bondi it was off to swim after the contest. If you want to see more info check the page here DownUnderGround top 3 pro downunderground January 2014

DownUnderGround round 1

twitterlinkedinmail

The 18th of January will see the Australian flatland scene come together for the start of series 6 of DownUnderGround with round 1 taking place in Sydney at Waverley Park near the famous Bondi Beach. Freestyle Now squad members Jason Parker, Shaun Jarvis and Paul Chamberlain will be attending with fun high on the agenda. Paul took out the 2013 year title in the pro class and will no doubt be looking at riding well in the contest. Both Shaun and Jason have both been placing well in the advanced class at previous contests with Shaun winning round 2 – the video contest late last year. The competition will be tough in both the pro and advanced classes with a large turnout of Australia’s flatland riders expected. It is also hoped that the contest will not only attract flatland riders but other bmx riders as most park and street riders posses a large amount of flatland skills and they don’t even know it. Hang fives, foot jams and manuals are all basic flatland tricks and are all worthy of being done at any of the DownUnderGround contests. The contest is supported by Freestyle Now, Colony and 2020 bmx magazine.

Jason Parker new bike check

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad member Jason Parker had been riding on his old bike for a long time, about 6 years or so. He was in need of an update, a new ride, so we got one sorted for him. Jason first joined Freestyle Now 14 years ago in March 1999. Over them 14 years he has not had many bikes but his new ride is by far the slickest ride he has had. Jason is a great asset to Freestyle Now, he is always positive and do to roll whenever he can. The below video was shot on a rainy day and was the first time he was out on his new bike. Check the video for a run down, enjoy.

The DownUnderGround national bmx flatland contest series has been kicking it around Australia since 2008. Freestyle Now is proud to be one of the main supporters of the contest series. In January round 1 of series 5 took place in Sydney. It was a crazy weekend. Lots of good times with many friends from around Australia and the world. The day before the contest Sydney had one of the hottest days on record topping at 45.8 degrees. On top of that it poured down with rain on the same afternoon. On the day of the contest it was hot and half way through the day the contest was put on hold while the rain came down. Freestyle Now Squad members Paul Chamberlain, Shaun Jarvis, Jason Parker  and Billy Brooks  all attended the contest. Here is the contest video all shot and edits by our resident video main man Billy Brooks. Enjoy.

Round 1 of DownUnderGround took place in Sydney on the 19th of January. Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain, Shaun Jarvis, Jason Parker  and Billy Brooks were there to participate in the good times. Another rider who always follows the good times in Tasmanian rider Matt Wootton. He was also in Sydney to hang out and ride at DownUnderGround . He was able to film some of the competition as well as the antics that went on during the weekend and the video captures the vibe of the weekend really well. Thanks Matt for getting the video done.

Freestyle Now at DownUnderGround

Last weekend round 1 of DownUnderGround the national bmx flatland contest series took place in Sydney. Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain, Shaun Jarvis, Jason Parker  and Billy Brooks were there to ride and have fun. The day took a bit of a break when the rain set in for about 2 hours but everyone waited for it to clear and the contest kept rolling.
Paul took out the second place in the pro class just one point ahead of Japanese rider Yasushi Kajiwala but it was flatland icon Simon O’Brien who took out the win. Competing in the advanced class Shaun took 4th place 4 points behind Sydney rider Andrew Lightbody. Jason tied with Tasmanian rider Matt Wootton for 5th place while Billy who is not really a flatland rider, riding with no pegs took out the 7th place, with some great 360 hop combos and manuals.
