The crowds were excited to see the amazing bmx stunt show performed by Freestyle Now. Its what we do , we entertain the people. Freestyle Now squad members Shaun JarvisJosh Garwood and Luke Tooze were joined by good friend and all round radical rider Nathan Joson to round out the bmx stunt show performers. The four bmx stunt show riders put on a great entertaining bmx stunt show for the crowds. Big tricks were being performed and the crowds were putting the energy back into the performance, the more noise the crowd makes the more energy the performers receive. Josh Garwood sent the double backflip for the first time on the Freestyle Now stunt show ramp. What a achievement for Josh and the Lancelin primary school fete audience to witness some radical history. The first double backflip in a Freestyle Now stunt show.

FREESTYLE NOW – GETTING RAD IN THE STREET

twitterlinkedinmail

Practice make perfect as the saying goes. But how do you practice for a bmx stunt show, work on new tricks and gain more confidence? You set up your bmx stunt show ramps in the street and proceed to get rad, and that exactly what we did. We invited Freestyle Now squad members Josh Garwood, Shaun Jarvis, Luke Tooze, Tim Rose and Taj Hamilton to come and get rad in the street. We set up the FN big jump on the street out the front of our house and got rad. We also invited good friends Nathan Joson, Daniel Davis and Kieran Ramsay along for the day to session the FN big jump and throw down some tricks, try new tricks and generally get used to hitting up the FN big jump. What a fun and rad day it was. Be sure to watch the video.

It was great to had veteran Freestyle Now squad member Tim Rose come and have a roll on the FN big jump, Nice table 360.

Getting rad in the streets, be sure to watch the video to see what we got up to.

Luke Tooze worked on some new tricks, this is the result of some of that work. Be sure to watch the video to see what Luke was working on.

2019 Western Australian BMX freestyle state championships

twitterlinkedinmail

BMX freestyle is now an official Olympic sport. There are many different types of bmx freestyle riding from street, skatepark, flatland, vert and dirt but it is the skatepark style is the one that is now in the Olympics. Freestyle Now decided it was time to run an official Western Australian BMX freestyle state championships for skatepark riders. The location was the Belmont skatepark due to its openness and functionality along with having a good jump box. There were a great number of riders who entered the competition which catered for many ages and skill levels. Under 10’s, beginners, intermediates, over 35’s and the open class.

Freestyle Now squad members placed we in the competition with Josh Garwood taking 2nd in open even though he went to hospital with a concussion and new squad member Luke Tooze taking 3rd in the open class along with Jack Carwardine placing 11th. Co founder of Freestyle Now Shaun Jarvis was leading the over 35’s class but took the 2nd place in the finals and recruits squad member Taj Hamilton took the 6th place in the intermediate class

The week leading up to the competition day was rain all week. But come competition day the sun was out although it was windy, but this did die down toward the end of the day. Many bmx riders turned up to roll out the rad and to try to take the prestigious number 1 in Western Australia title. There were lots of different styles of riding going down over the different classes, some riders going wide open and some riders being super technical along with a mix between them all. All up it was a great representation of the riding that is currently taking place in Western Australia. The riding in the groups was all really close as you can tell by the points awarded to each rider, each competitor had two runs with only their best run being taken into account for their points. Riders were judged on difficulty, diversity and consistency with a maximum score from one judge of 60 points, and when you add up all the numbers for rider to be only one or two points the difference you know it’s a close competition. A big congratulation to all the riders who entered and especially to the riders who took out the number 1 positions. Freestyle Now hopes to roll out the state championships into other states around Australia over the next year. We would like to thank our supporters for the 2019 Western Australian BMX freestyle state championships, Colony BMX, Local BMX, Mad Orse Industries, City of Belmont and Bmx sports Western Australia along with the sports governing body Freestyle BMX Australia.

Thanks to MadOrse Industries for being there to capture the action on video

Freestyle Now BMX stunt show – Geraldton Sunshine Festival

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now recently performed bmx stunt shows at the Geraldton Sunshine Festival. What a great event it is, right on the Geraldton foreshore, with great crowds. This was the first show that Freestyle Now performed on our new big jump. The new jump is a lot bigger than our old ramp set up that we had for 18 years. And with a bigger ramp bigger tricks and more air will be achieved. The day started out with our set up in the morning to perfect jumping conditions. As the morning progressed the wind started to pick up which can be difficult to perform in. Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis and Josh Garwood invited good friends Luke Tooze and Nathan Joson to round out the bmx stunt show performers. With a crew like that the wind did not affect the show performance. Big tricks were being performed and the crowds were putting the energy back into the performance, the more noise the crowd makes the more energy the performers receive. Freestyle Now came to roll out the rad and entertain the masses at the Geraldton Sunshine festival and that is what we achieved. Freestyle Now Meekatharra skatepark activation road trip

twitterlinkedinmail

Josh Garwood getting it flat in the pool

Freestyle Now recently headed out to Meekatharra for a skatepark activation session. On the trip was Freestyle now boss man Shaun Jarvis, Josh Garwood who was just getting back into riding after his fractured vertebrates 9 weeks before the trip after the doctor gave the all clear to go and scooter radster Tyler Jennings. Guest skateboard shredder Sam Orme was also invited on the trip. The first day was taken up by the 9 hour drive out to Meekatharra. Day two was the opening of the skatepark and a skatepark activation coaching session. The Freestyle Now helped the locals learn new skills and gain more confidence in bmx, scooter and skateboard activities, so they can have more fun at the skatepark. Day three was another skatepark activation coaching  session with more skills being taken up. On day four it was the long journey home again. Definitely was a great trip full of good times and much radness. The local skatepark participants out in Meekatharra were stoked as were the Freestyle Now crew. On the trip the crew even managed to find an old pool on the trip that Josh and Sam got to roll in, definitely a highlight of the trip. The Meekatharra skatepark is great and if you are ever travelling the 770kms out that was into the remote Western Australian outback be sure to stop and have a roll.

Freestyle Now rolling out the rad in Port Hedland

twitterlinkedinmail

Josh boosting a tabletop on a full pipe that was never meant to be ridden.

Freestyle Now recently travelled to Port Hedland for a week of youth engagement, skatepark coaching and to host a skatepark competition. Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis, Karee Furnevall and Josh Garwood  were given the task to roll out the rad over the week. Skatepark coaching workshops took place at the Port Hedland skatepark as well as the super large South Hedland skatepark. It is great to help others learn how to roll out the rad. On the Monday the squad got to hang out at the Port Hedland BMX track. On the Wednesday to squad travelled out to the Warralong community and did a school presentation session. It was a great experience and we hope to be back there again soon. The skatepark coaching workshops defiantly helped many skatepark participants learn more skill which they all put to use in the competition on the Friday night. It was also great to see the Evans family from down in Perth, skating in Port Hedland and attending the competition. Cruz, Via and Zen are all rad skaters.

Shaun, Karee and Josh captured some of the radness that took place on the Port Hedland trip. Be sure to check out the video
