Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad – South Perth Australia Day Celebrations

Australia Day in Perth had one of the most bizarre weather patterns that many have seen for a long time. The Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad had a big day on this day. In the morning they performed some morning stunt shows in Gosnells before they headed over to the South Perth Australia Day celebrations on the Swan River foreshore. It was hot even in the morning, but more heat was to come, the thermometer maxed out at 42 degrees. Liquid was being consumed at a very rapid rate. With the ramps all set it was time to get the bmx shows rolling. The heat defiantly was a large factor in the low numbers attending the Perth Australia Day celebrations fireworks all around the Swan River.
Although it was so hot that did not slow down the Freestyle Now bmx stunt squad performances. A total of 6 shows were performed before nature unleashed its own fireworks. As the sky was getting darker and darker the temperature was still staying at a steady HOT. As time was moving forward the sky was dark from the clouds not from the onset of night. As the fireworks started, so too did natures fireworks. There was lightning going in all directions and rain bucketing down. The temperature did come down some but it remained hot well into the night. Australia Day 2012 most definitely did have the most bizarre weather that Perth has seen in many years.

Behind the Bars – Show 5

It’s that time of the month again for another episode of “Behind the Bars” to be released.
In 2001 squad members Shaun Jarvis and Jason Parker began to produce a T.V. show called “Behind the Bars” which was broadcast on community television in Perth Western Australia. The show focused on the BMX scene in Perth, Western Australia. With no video production skills the two guys just went at it, they knew what they wanted to achieve and set about doing just that. This is a good example that you can do whatever you want as long as you put your mind to it. There is nothing holding you back, only you. Both Jason and Shaun started to get a bit more experience with the skills and the production get a little easier after the first few shows. With only that experience to guide them in production the two guys set out to get another show set and done, show 5. So after 10 years it’s now time to unleash show 5 to the world via the internet. If you would like to see the other shows the check out The Prelude  along with  Show 1, Show 2, Show 3 and Show 4 if you wish to catch up.
Freestyle Now will be releasing an episode every month so keep posted and enjoy the show.

Lot 208 youth bmx skate and scooter coaching workshops

On Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th of January Freestyle Now hosted two skateboard, scooter and bmx coaching workshops for Lot 208 youth at the Australind and Harvey skateparks. Australind was on the Monday with a good turnout of skatepark users to enjoy a morning of learning new tricks. The push for a new skatepark at Australind was also promoted on this day as well which is good to see as Australind is long overdue for a new facility. On the Tuesday it was time to rock it out at the Harvey skatepark. The locals had the morning to get some great trick tips during the coaching workshop. All the participants during the workshop went away smiling at the end of the workshops. Either they received product from Stowaway distribution, 4 skateboard co and Mutts scooters or just the fact that they learnt new tricks and skills that they had otherwise not had the chance to learn.

Round 1 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series – Kalgoorlie

The sun was shining bright on the afternoon when round 1 in the new series of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series kicked off at the Kalgoorlie skatepark. The skateboard, scooter and bmx competition had a good turnout of competitors from the goldfields area, all willing to partake in a good fun afternoon.
It was great to see Blake Hick who had won the 2011 F.N.W.A.S.S. scooter title had moved up to bmx and  took all of his scooter skills with him. With two of Kalgoorlie heavy hitters away, Corey Smithies and Sam Pearce, the annihilation of the bmx class was left up to Sam’s brother Blake Pearce, it must run in the blood as Blake kicked it large and took the win.
Two French skaters are traveling around Australia and had only just begun their journey in Perth and Kalgoorlie was their first stop. Both Cyril and Jonathon are shredders and good dudes and we wish them a safe expedition around Australia. Young skater Josh Castle has moved up on the skill scale and is now rocking some fresh tricks, it’s good to see. Josh was given the award for bestest duder on the day with a $100 voucher from new local business Karpar House.
As usual all the competitors threw down some great runs during the afternoon, and at the end as the sun was setting prizes were given out thanks to Stowaway distribution, 4 skateboard co and Mutts scooters. A big thank you to the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder for supporting the competition.
