Freestyle Now

Round 1 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series  took place at the Golden Bay skatepark as part of the Golden Bay street festival. The turnout was great for competitors and spectators alike. Golden Bay was the first competition in the 2016 series. The competition was also saw new classes for competitors to enter, beginners, intermediate and open, it is hoped to give a better range of options for the skills the competitors have for competing. Thank you to all the competitors who rolled and a big thank you to our supporters Local BMX, Colony bmx, Sacrifice scooters, Ethereal Clothing and 4 skateboard Co as well as City of Rockingham and Creating Communities 

Clockwise from top left – Jiordan Giacoppo has so much power when he rides and it showed at Golden Bay with the 1st place in scooter open – Zayn Zikmundovsky was skating like a skater who would take 1st place in skateboard open class, and he did – Dylan Schmidt powered his way around Golden Bay and this superman whip was just some of his radness – Young Chev Carmody is a ripper, this backside on the quarter to the flatbank is rad for the young dude, 1st place in skateboard intermediate.

Round 17 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series  took place at the Nichol West skatepark in Karratha on the 21^st November. It was a hot and windy day but the radness still got rolled out. Karratha has a good mix of riders in skate, scooter and bmx and they came out in full force to compete at the skatepark competition. A big thank you to all the competitors who rolled and to our supporters Local BMX, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co. We also need to give a big shout out to the City of Karratha and all the youth workers who helped to get some of the competitors there from the out reaching towns around Karratha.

Clockwise from top left – Jesse Lyon took home the first place in bmx advanced with some good style and flow, this turndown over the hip is proof – Tiana Storey hitting up a finger whip in the girls class and taking out the first place – Shaun Jarvis and Mason Brown flank Hamioria Hinaka who won the skate beginners and took home a new skate deck. Hamioria lives in Roebourne and it was great for him to make it to the competition thanks to the City of Karratha youth workers. Hamioria also was lucky enough to have the Freestyle Now crew attend the Roebourne and Wickham skateparks for a coaching workshop where Mason Brown helped him learn some new skills – First place in scooter advanced went to Jarrod Renton who was going large on every air.

Round 13 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series recently took place at the Willetton Skatepark. It was a big competition, the biggest number of competitors that has ever been at a Freestyle Now competition with 74 competitors. The spectator count was up there as well with great parental support. This is always good to see. Thank you to all the competitors who rolled and a big thank you to our supporters Local BMX, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co. as well as  the City of Canning.

Round 12 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series took place in one of the biggest skateparks in Australia. Situated in South Hedland in the northwest of Australia the new skatepark was opened in March. It’s a massive park with endless possibilities. The scene in South Hedland is rad, lots of young crew so egger to shred and learn new tricks, they are progressing so fast and why wouldn’t they with such a rad facility to ride. There was a great number of spectators there on the day which is rad to see and lots of parents supporting the competitors on the day. Thank you to all the competitors who rolled and a big thank you to our supporters Local BMX, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co. as well as  the Town of Port Hedland for supporting a great competition.

Anthony Dann took out 6^th place in the scooter advanced class but he was the only competitor boosting the spine this high. So rad.

Clockwise from top left – Patrick Wright took out the first place in the bmx class with some rad moves like this little flatty over the flatbank hip – Jack Velkoski has live in South Hedland for nearly 15 years and was pumped to ride this park. First place in skateboard, on the vert wall – Cyirl Jones won the Scooter beginners class and he was stoked – Jay Thorby placed first in the scooter advanced class with lots of good moves. This rewind out of the bowl was one of them.
