Freestyle Now squad member and all proud dad Paul Chamberlain has been on a bit of a vacation this past week, he sent in this quick update.
“Took a week off to go up the coast with my family in camper. Have been driving around inland for a few days. Stayed up by Mount Warning the past two nights. Down in Brunswick Heads at the moment. Chilling. I’m cooking two large mullet that I got from a fisherman tonight despite the fact that I don’t eat fish anymore. They’ll all enjoy it though. I’m pretty good at cooking the old seafood. It’s in my salty blood. I met Jaspa Palffy, a scooter rider at Bellingen skatepark and he asked if he could film me. Less than 24 hours later I had an edit online!”

A few vacation snaps.

A few weeks ago Freestyle Now squad member Shaun Jarvis hosted a few friends in his home city of Perth, Australian flatland heavy hitter Shane Badman and first time Australian visitor Hungarian András Péntek. András is not only a rad flatland rider but is also co-owner of OG Bike Shop, Hungary’s biggest BMX shop and distro, as well as a professional photographer. While in Perth András took these photos of Shaun with his favorite city in the background. If you would like to see more of András’s photos check his flickr account.

Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Shaun Jarvis attended the recent DownUnderGround flatland contest in Melbourne over the weekend. This contest was the finals of the 5th series. Heading into the contest Shaun was two points behind for the year end title in the advanced class while Paul was almost guaranteed the year end title in the pro class. The two riders rode well during the contest with both hitting up some of their harder combos and links. Shaun had a few bike problems during his runs which held him back from being a consistent as he wanted which resulted in a 3rd place in the advanced class behind Tasmanian Matt Wootton and 1st place getter André from Melbourne. As a result Shaun ended up with the 2nd place in the overall year end title. Paul rode well in the pro class and smashed out some great combos for the 2nd place, but a few inconstant links may have been his demise in taking the win from Australian flatland heavy hitter Shane Badman. Paul ended up taking the number one year end title in the Pro class. Congratulations to both riders and no doubt both riders will represent Freestyle Now well in Sydney for round 1 of series 6 of DownUnderGround which is set to take place on the 18th January 2014.

Round 2 of the DownUnderGround national bmx flatland contest series has been recently held. It was a video only contest for all riders within Australia. Competitors had to submit a unedited contest video between 1 and 2 minutes, just as if they were at the contest. Freestyle Now squad Shaun Jarvis took out the win in the advanced class. His video submission is below. Other Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain took 3rd in the Pro Class and Jason Parker took out 5th in the advanced class.

Freestyle Now is proud to be supporting another round of DownUnderGround. Round 2 is a video only contest open to all riders within Australia keen to throw down. (Even international riders staying in Australia at the time of the contest)
The concept is simple: Film a 2 minute run in contest conditions. (A straight up 2 minute raw flatland run.) It can be filmed on any device, quality of video is not important. You don’t need to make the video fancy or have music backing or spend stacks of time editing it. You are judged on the quality of your riding not the quality of the video. Full details about the contest can be found at bmxflatlandaustralia.com.
On October 1 the videos will all go live on the net through the BMXFlatlandAustralia YouTube channel.
First place in Pro and Advanced will share in $500 worth of travel to get to the next DownUnderGround contest thanks to Freestyle Now.
Round 3 – the finals will take place in Melbourne on the 19th October. Get out there and film, nothing is stopping you. Full details on the entry information can be found on the format and judges page via bmxflatlandaustralia.com.

Freestyle Now squad member Paul Chamberlain has recently become a father. What better way to celebrate his new found fatherhood than to invite his younger brother out from England to Sydney. Paul’s younger brother Carlos is new to bmx and with Paul’s very dry wit and sarcasm was helping his younger sibling get around their local skatepark, Dulwich Hill. This video was shot in an afternoon by good friend Will Herrmann. Make yourself a cup of England’s fines tea and enjoy the sarcasm of Paul Chamberlain.

Freestyle Now squad member Jason Parker had been riding on his old bike for a long time, about 6 years or so. He was in need of an update, a new ride, so we got one sorted for him. Jason first joined Freestyle Now 14 years ago in March 1999. Over them 14 years he has not had many bikes but his new ride is by far the slickest ride he has had. Jason is a great asset to Freestyle Now, he is always positive and do to roll whenever he can. The below video was shot on a rainy day and was the first time he was out on his new bike. Check the video for a run down, enjoy.
