Australind skatepark fundraiser

twitterlinkedinmail

Australind is a growing community about 150kms south of Perth. Their skatepark is of a very poor quality and the community has gained council approval for a new 1.35 million dollar skatepark to be built. The only catch is the community needs to raise $50000 to help. Freestyle Now is happy to get involved to help out. This will be only one of many jams that they will hold to assist with gaining funds to help. Support for this is needed from many participants, even if you were to come down and hang out and just get involved in any of the other activities or just drop by and donate some cash. Remember many people will come to the new skatepark once built and enjoy it but will you be able to say that you actually helped? Everyone wants a new park and new places to shred but you have to work for them. Come on down for the day to show your support as the new park once constructed will be amazing with it being a great stop over on the way down south to the plethora of other skateparks in the region.

Australind fund raiser jam feb 2014

On the day there will be 2 coaching jam sessions 10am to 12 and 1pm to 3pm $5 per session (please be 10 Min early to sign up) The local community has rallied together with lots of local business pitching in to help so even if you are not actively involved in the skatepark activity there will be plenty of ways to help raise the funds. 100 Vouchers for Eyebrow threading from Thread Away will be up for grabs for just $10 each, 50 vouchers for trendy Kids haircuts from Kinx Hair Port for just $10 each, Reflexology and Massages will be offered on the day for $10, Self- defence classes – learn nifty tricks to keep yourself and your kids safe $5, Action shot series from your children when they are doing their tricks on the Skate Park $5, Lauren Reynolds, professional BMXer and Olympian is coming from 1.30 to 2.30 for a signature and photo opportunity session, Bouncy castle and Toys for the little ones, Food vans to sell fries, soft serve ice cream, drinks, fairy floss, Harvey Fresh fruit juice and the super yummy sausages from Pete`s chop shop.
So come down to the Australind skatepark, and give something, your tricks, your energy, your dollar, your time.
Join their facebook page to show your support for the new park. Big thank you to Sabine Heidt for being the main instigator behind the whole movement.

Morawa skatepark opening celebrations

twitterlinkedinmail

Morawa is a very small town about 400kms north of Perth, Western Australia. When some of the town children asked for a skatepark the town had a meeting with some keen parents and councilors. Karen Chappel was at the meeting as she had a 13 year old son who wanted to have a skatepark. Karen is now the shire president and her son is now 31 years old. Yes it took 18 years for Morawa to get a skatepark. Finally the youth of the area have a place to shred. On the 10th of November, Freestyle Now headed up to Morawa to help celebrate the opening day with a coaching jam session. The opening ceremony took place and then it was down to business of letting the radness flow. Willetton skatepark competition – Round 14 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

twitterlinkedinmail

Round 14 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series went down at the Willetton Skatepark on the 11th of October. It was a crazy day that’s for sure, with 55 competitors and rain clouds abundant. First up was the scooter beginner class. As soon as all 29 competitors had finished the rain clouds we stoked and in appreciation they let out all of their rain. Then there was the false hope of everything drying up, on several occasions. After about 2 hours the rain had just eased off to a spit and then stopped all together. The park dried up and it was game on. The scooter advanced class was a treat to watch with Billy Watts having the massive home ground advantage and going higher and faster than anyone in the history of ever. Current F.N.W.A.S.S. point’s leader Jiordan Giacoppo took out the second place with his large tech skills and Josh Sharpe was smashing out the feeble grind combos on the ledge like it was nothing for the 3rd place.
It was good to see a good lot of young skaters there all keen to shred the gnar and patient to wait long enough for the park to dry up. Josh Coates and JJ Turno were both smashing to out in the advanced class.
BMX had a good turnout. Young 14 year old Matt Adkins will be a force to reckon with as he gets older and stronger. Great tech skills and able to stomp out some good tricks, helped him with the 1st place. Freestyle Now living legend Jason Parker enter his first skatepark competition in over 12 years. With his flavor of riding and all round goodness he took out the 2nd place. Third place went to Brad McAuliffe who rode like a champion.
All in all the competition was great. A big thanks to the City of Canning for their continual support for skatepark competitions and to our supporters Stowaway distribution, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co for all the rad prizes.
