South Hedland skatepark competition – Round 5 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 5 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series went down at the South Hedland skatepark. The South Hedland skatepark is one of the biggest in Australia. It is massive with lines galore and sections that are so rad. Sometimes it can be like a video game and after riding it for some time you unlock new lines. Like they just magically appear in front of you. There was a good turnout of competitors for the skatepark competition. Freestyle Now were in Port Hedland for a few days before the skatepark competition to host a few skatepark coaching workshops, it’s always great to help with generation more skills to the skatepark users. Congratulation to Jacob Wise for competing in all three disciplines, scooter bmx and skate. We would also like to thank our supporters, Local BMXColony bmxSacrifice scootersEthereal Clothing and 4 skateboard Co as well as Town of Port Hedland.
The next skatepark competition will be Round 11 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series held at the Margaret River skatepark on the 28th May, hope to see you there.

Pinjarra skatepark competition – Round 4 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 4 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series went down at the Pinjarra skatepark situated just south of Perth. There was a good turnout of competitors and spectators for the skatepark competition. Some competitors made the small journey from Perth to attend, which is good as they are making the effort to follow the series and venture out to new locations. At all of the Freestyle Now skatepark competitions there are three classes for competitors to enter, beginners (younger and still learning), intermediates (competitors with some good skills) and the open class (consistent and dials tricks) in the three disciplines scooter, skateboard and bmx. There is also a girls class to help encourage more girls to enter and it was good to see some girls competing in Pinjarra. A big thank you to all the competitors who rolled out the rad at the Pinjarra skatepark competition. Collie skatepark competition – Round 3 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 3 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series went down at the Collie skatepark situated about 200 kms south of Perth. There was a good turnout of competitors and spectators for the skatepark competition. Some competitors made the track from Perth to attend, which is good as they are making the effort to follow the series and venture out to new locations. The biggest class was the intermediate scooter class with saw only 5 points between 1st and 5th, it was a tight competition for sure. At all of the Freestyle Now skatepark competitions there are three classes for competitors to enter, beginners (younger and still learning), intermediates (competitors with some good skills) and the open class (consistent and dials tricks) in the three disciplines scooter, skateboard and bmx. A big thank you to all the competitors who rolled out the rad at the Collie skatepark competition. Welcome Ben Thomas – Freestyle Now squad member

Freestyle Now would like to welcome Ben Thomas to the Freestyle Now squad. Ben Thomas started riding scooters in 2008 and has been progressing ever since then till he is now classed as one of the world’s best scooter riders. Ben has been rolling at many of the Freestyle Now coaching sessions and competitions over the past few months so we thought we would make him an official Freestyle Now squad member. Ben brings not only some of the raddest moves on a scooter to Freestyle Now but a great positive attitude that is a major asset at all of our events. Ben Thomas has got some serious competition wins under his belt. Over the last few years Ben has not only just taken top placings with in Australia but he has place in the top five in all the ISA World championship competitions since 2012 – 2015. 2nd place in 2012, 5th place in 2013, 4th place in 2014 and taking a 5th place in 2015. This is remarkable considering the amount of riders and how hard the competition is at such an event. Ben also recently attend the 2015 Scootfest World Cup in England where he place 1st.

Ben Thomas had this to say about becoming a Freestyle Now squad member. “I enjoy riding for and being a part of Freestyle Now. They are a really cool, chilled out bunch of dudes that just love to enjoy themselves and have a good time within the sports of scooters, bmx and skateboarding. I quite enjoy doing coaching workshops and hosting competitions with Freestyle Now, meeting some many younger dudes and helping them out with tricks and stuff like that. Always a good time.”

Butler skatepark competition – Round 2 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 2 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series went down at the Butler skatepark. The northern suburbs skatepark saw some rad action taking place between the competitors with real close competition in the intermediate scooter class with points being very tight between all the competitors. At all of the Freestyle Now skatepark competitions there are three classes for competitors to enter, beginners (younger and still learning), intermediates (competitors with some good skills) and the open class (consistent and dials tricks) in the three disciplines scooter, skateboard and bmx. Welcome Kieran Ramsay – Freestyle Now reserves squad member

Freestyle Now would like to welcome Kieran Ramsay to the reserves squad. Kieran bring to the reserves squad a good attitude and some rad riding. These are the most important things when Freestyle now looks for new squad members. Kieran has been attending a few of the skatepark coaching sessions as a scooter coach and so we have been able to see his ability to interact with younger scooter riders and his coaching technique. Qualities that are important. Kieran is also a shredder and rides well and is always focused on progression. You can check out this Freestyle Now profile on the reserves page. A fact many did not know was that  Kieran also used to race bmx and only stopped a year ago to focus more on his scooter riding. Welcome Kieran Ramsay stoked you are here to help roll out the rad.

Golden Bay skatepark competition – Round 1 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 1 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series  took place at the Golden Bay skatepark as part of the Golden Bay street festival. The turnout was great for competitors and spectators alike. Golden Bay was the first competition in the 2016 series. The competition was also saw new classes for competitors to enter, beginners, intermediate and open, it is hoped to give a better range of options for the skills the competitors have for competing. 2015 Freestyle Now Western Australian skatepark series – finals results

The 2015 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series (F.N.W.A.S.S.) has come to an end. There was 18 rounds in total covering most of Western Australia from Karratha in the north to Kalgoorlie in the east and several south west locations as well as the Perth metropolitan area. The point series is open to all participants that compete in the advanced class in bmx, skateboard and scooter disciplines at all of the designated skatepark competitions that Freestyle Now hosts. There were lots of competitors who entered the competitions during 2015 with each competitor receiving points for their placing. Points are awarded in the following way for each placing,
1st = 30 , 2nd = 25 , 3rd = 20 , 4th = 10 , 5th = 5 , 6th = 3 , 7th onwards = 1

A congratulations goes out to the competitors who competed and followed the series enough to keep their points up. This series dose not really dictate who it the best rider in the state but gives the competitors a series to follow to work on a yearend title. This is the fifth year the series has been running and it is now gaining momentum. The 2016 series is set to kick off with round 1 at the Golden Bay skatepark on the 16th of January and round 2 at the Butler skatepark on the 29th January. Busselton skatepark competition – Round 18 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 18 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series was held at the new Busselton skatepark as part of the opening day celebrations. It was a big day with many competitions taking place at various parts of the park simultaneously. The crowds were big and the people came out to see the new skatepark, one of Western Australia’s biggest, as the official opening took place. The skatepark has a large bowl , small bowl and various street plaza sections. It is a very good well designed park. Freestyle Now managed the bmx and scooter competitions on the day. This was the final round of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series for 2015 and the full results of the series will be posted soon. A big thank you to all the competitors who rolled and to our supporters Local BMX, Colony bmx, Sacrifice scooters, Ethereal Clothing. We also need to give a big shout out to the City of Busselton and all the youth workers who helped make this day so rad.

Karratha skatepark competition – Round 17 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

Round 17 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series  took place at the Nichol West skatepark in Karratha on the 21st November. It was a hot and windy day but the radness still got rolled out. Karratha has a good mix of riders in skate, scooter and bmx and they came out in full force to compete at the skatepark competition. A big thank you to all the competitors who rolled and to our supporters Local BMX, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co. We also need to give a big shout out to the City of Karratha and all the youth workers who helped to get some of the competitors there from the out reaching towns around Karratha.

Clockwise from top left – Jesse Lyon took home the first place in bmx advanced with some good style and flow, this turndown over the hip is proof – Tiana Storey hitting up a finger whip in the girls class and taking out the first place – Shaun Jarvis and Mason Brown flank Hamioria Hinaka who won the skate beginners and took home a new skate deck. Hamioria lives in Roebourne and it was great for him to make it to the competition thanks to the City of Karratha youth workers. Hamioria also was lucky enough to have the Freestyle Now crew attend the Roebourne and Wickham skateparks for a coaching workshop where Mason Brown helped him learn some new skills – First place in scooter advanced went to Jarrod Renton who was going large on every air.
