Dumbleyoug Bluebird festival

twitterlinkedinmail

On the 6th of November the Freestyle Now stunt squad along with invited rider Laurence Bakewell headed out to the Dumbleyoug Bluebird festival to hit up some show performances and coaching workshops. The bluebird festival takes its name from the famous Bluebird boat that Donald Campbell set the water speed record in. In 1964 Donald Campbell too the Bluebird to Lake Dumbleyoug and set the water speed record of 444.66 Km per hour. Lake Dumbleyoug when it is not dry has the largest body of inland water in southern W.A. covering an area of about 84kms2

The Bluebird festival is a great community event with many surrounding areas and towns contributing to make this event a highlight of the calendar year for many. The Freestyle Now squad hit up some great show performances and then also got the local riders involved with some coaching workshops. The young dudes who participated all had a blast and even joined into the last show.

Jammin in the Park

twitterlinkedinmail

The jamming in the park 2010 was a really awesome day had by all. A large portion of Bunbury came out to hang out, listen to some hardcore bands, do tricks, win prizes, and most of all have fun.

The coaching session that Freestyle Now hosted in the morning  were well attended by many youngsters all wishing to gain some more knowledge on bmx skills. In the afternoon the Bunbury skatepark was awash of bmxers, skaters and scooters as the park was full of mayhem. The best of the action was the high jump comp that ended in Jaymin King and Sebbi Scott both skying over a set of Bicycle Union handle bars. When it could be resolved as both were jumping the height with ease it turned into a 180 high jump battle and still at over 1.5 meters high it was still unresolved. So the Pav man stepped in and hoisted them bars way high into the air and the high jump was on again and this time Jaymin King rocketing well over the bars, over 2 meters. Score.

There was a young ripper attending the Jammin in the park event named Rowan. Rowan got bitten with the bmx bug back in 2006 when he was only 3. After seeing a Freestyle Now show in Mukinbudin in 2006 he was hooked and said that is what I want to do. He is mad keen on bmx and loves it, now aged 7 he was stoked to be getting some coaching from the Freestyle Now squad. Shaun Jarvis had this to say about meeting Rowan again ““This is one of the most inspiring parts of doing the Freestyle Now shows, having shown bmx to many people and to get someone so stoked on bmx because they saw one to the shows is a massive inspiration”

Thanks to Stowaway distribution and Royal bmx for the flow of prizes that the riders were able to get a hold of during the afternoon and a mad props to the City of Bunbury for throwin on the Shindig.

10 10 10 jam

twitterlinkedinmail

The 10 10 10 jam was an invite only jam. Freestyle Now squad member Shaun Jarvis opened up his home and threw a party that was fitting for a day that will only come around again in 100 years. The 10th day of the 10th month of the 10th year. The Freestyle Now ramps were put into good use and set up in the front and the back yard. So much rad stuff went down with fun being the main objective of the day. That objective was reached many times over.

Patrick Kristmann along with good friend Lizzy were there to take some photographic evidence of the day. To explore more of that evidence check out Patrick Kristmann Photography on facebook. If you would like to see some of Lizzies amazing camera work click here so scope out her website
