Bremer Bay skatepark competition – January 2021

Bremer Bay held its first skatepark competition on their new skatepark in January. Freestyle now had the pleasure to host the skatepark competition for the Bremer bay community resource centre thanks to Live Lighter be active campaign sponsored by Healthways. The day before the competition Freestyle Now hosted a skatepark coaching session. Lots of participants learnt new skills and gained confidence with navigating the skatepark. Freestyle Now also spoke to the participants about how a skatepark competition is judged and how to plan out a competition run. At the competition many of the participants put this advice to good use. The competition was well attended by the town of Bremer Bay with many spectators and supporters, which was great to see. At the end of the competition all the participants no matter their placing took home a prize. It was also good to see some participants entering more than one discipline, yeah more prizes. Port Kennedy skatepark competition – December 2020

Port Kennedy had an old skatepark It was built at a time when it seemed no one knew how to work with cement. The City of Rockingham after years and years finally got the funding to build a new skatepark, and what a awesome skatepark it is. The designers and builders got this one about 90% correct. Good lines, good flow and good a good range of elements. Freestyle Now hosted the first skatepark competition at the new skatepark. As always at Freestyle Now skatepark competitions all disciplines and skill levels were catered for. It was really good to see the great turn out of competitors. Clockwise from top left – Madison Ware took the 2^nd place in the skateboard beginners class. She had some great skills and put together a great run around the skatepark – Brandon Newbury won a new skate deck from the 4 skateboard company for winning the intermediate skateboard class – Jack Hoopes travelled the 1 hour long train ride and then the 30 minute pedal from the train station to get to the Port Kennedy skatepark competition. It was great to see that level of commitment. A 2^nd place for Jack along with some great riding. Thanks for coming and rolling out the rad Jack – 1^st place in the scooter intermediate went to Kaden Hodson. With a great mix of skills using many of the different elements of the skatepark, Kaden put together some killer runs. While many riders were focusing on just a few banger tricks and getting their trick list done Kaden focused on flow and a range of skills and tricks all over the park.

2020 Western Australian bmx freestyle state championships

The Western Australian bmx freestyle state championships took place at Bayswater skatepark on a weekend in November that saw record rain fall. The competition was meant to take place on the Saturday but leading up to the day rain started to fall and did not stop. The Saturday was so washed out that a canoe would have been better at the skatepark than a bike. Competition goers were notified that if it did not clear up the competition would be scheduled for the Sunday. Saturday night the rain was still falling at a rate that would fill an ocean. Come Sunday morning the rain had stopped but the weather was still looking less than favorable, but it was all systems go for the 2020 Western Australian bmx freestyle state championships.

Bayswater skatepark was picked as the choice of skateparks due to it scheduled for demolition in the new year. It is making way for a multi level carpark for a new train station, the community has great hope for a good replacement in the future. For 18 years Bayswater skatepark has seen its fair share of radness and hosted its fair number of competitions and it was only fitting that a final competition would be a great way to finish up the life of Bayswater skatepark (it has now had a reprieve and due for demolition in 2022)

This was a great competition to see mother and daughter riding together. – Roman Depiazzi is now the current bmx freestyle Western Australian state champion in the beginners class. He is definitely moving forward into the intermediates soon enough if he keeps on progressing. – The 2020 state champion in the intermediates is Ronan McCamish. Such a rad kid who loves bmx and like to do no handers of the beast box at Bayswater.

Double pegin down the kinker ledge. – Ryan Aquilina is a living legend of Bayswater skatepark. He has rode there almost every day over the past 18 years. We are sure he could do this tyre tap on the wall with his eyes shut. Ryan rode so good but just missed a few points and took home the number 2 placing. – Luke Tooze has been on a mission this past year. Winning the Scarborough beach bmx bowl battle only a few weeks before winning the Western Australian bmx freestyle state championships. This 720 over the beast was super clean and Luke took the well deserving state championship.

BMX freestyle skatepark is now an official Olympic sport. It was meant to be rolling in the 2020 Olympics but due to world events it’s hoped that the Olympics will run in 2021. This was the second Western Australian state championships that Freestyle Now has hosted (2019 being the first). There were a good number of riders who entered the competition which catered for many ages and skill levels. Under 10’s, Girls /womans, beginners, intermediates, over 35’s, over 45’s and the open class. The level of riding is always growing and it was good to see the level of riding in the under 10’s. In the girls/womans it was most awesome to have daughter and mother take out the 1^st and 2^nd places, big thanks and congratulations to Imogen and Rachel Denison. We are unsure if that has ever happened in a bmx competition before.

There were lots of different styles of riding going down over the different classes, some riders going wide open and some riders being super technical along with a mix between them all. All up it was a great representation of the riding that is currently taking place in Western Australia. The riding in the groups was all really close. Each competitor had two runs with only their best run being taken into account for their points. A big congratulation to all the riders who entered and especially to the riders who took out the number 1 positions. Freestyle Now hopes to roll out the 2021 Western Australian state championships soon.

Kalgoorlie skatepark competition – November 2020

Freestyle Now hosted a skatepark competition at the world famous Kalgoorlie skatepark. One of the best skatepark in the world, it allows multiple users to use the skatepark all at the same time. The skatepark has great flow which allows for great competitions and has a large assortment of obstacles and ramps to suit everyone’s styles and skill levels. The lines at the Kalgoorlie skatepark are endless. The competition took place on the Friday night with a skatepark coaching session on the Saturday morning that was well attended by all disciplines and all ages. Groundswell festival 2020 Scarborough Beach BMX Bowl battle

Scarborough Beach bowl, right on the beach, perfect for a bmx bowl battle.

The Groundswell festival was an amazing event. Right on the beach with a amazing bowl just perfect to a bmx bowl battle to take place. Freestyle Now hosted the first BMX bowl competition in Perth and it was fitting that is was at the biggest bowl this side of the Simpson Desert. Everyone took home a plethora of prizes thanks to the Groundswell Festival, Colony BMX, Sneaky Wholefoods and Local BMX. There were two classes that the riders could enter, The RAD and The RADDEST. Very easy to work out who should be in which class. The format was a battle final. Qualifying was super important, qualify in first and the other riders have to battle their way to take you on. Two riders would go into a battle round, each rider would have two 60 second runs back to back. If you won your battle round you would take on the next place rider. The three judges would vote who would progress into the next battle round. It was an exciting final to watch, with each class taking alternating turns so rider got to have a rest. You had to be in top form or you got the cut. Keep the radness flowing and you would progress into the next round.

Such a rad video of the competition, this one is really worthy of a play and then a replay and a replay.

The RAD class.

It was great to see Noah Campbell-Ward drop into the bowl for the first time during practice and then come up and enter the comp. 7^th place. In the battle finals it was a battle between father and son. Corey Brown (5^th place qualifier) was challenged by 6^th place qualifier Levi Brown. The two riders went back to back for two 60 second runs each. With three judges voting who was the best of the battle. Two votes for Corey Brown and moving up into the next battle round. Levi Brown 6^th place. Rowan Cosh (qualified 4^th) was waiting for his challenger. Rowan rode well in the qualifiers but somehow lacked the same level of riding in the battle finals. Corey was flowing the bowl which could have been why he got two votes from the three judges and he moved into the next battle. Rowan Cosh 5^th place. Roman Depiazzi (qualified in 3^rd) is 11 years old and he was waiting for his challenger, over 40 year old Corey Brown. This was the third time Corey had to ride in the battle, but he was still looking good. Was he as good as Roman? It was a tight one to judge, with the judges taking a while to cast their votes. Corey had speed and power in his run but Roman did a rad 360 out of the top waterfall and also did manage to manual across the waterfall hip. That could have been the deciding factors that gave Roman the two votes needed. Corey Brown 4^th place. Albie Livesley (2^nd place qualifier) is 7 years old. He sat waiting for the results of the previous battle to see who is challenger was going to be, Roman Depiazzi. These two young riders are definitely rad and it could have gone either way. It was super close. The judges took some time to cast their votes weighing up all the rad factors of each of their two 60 second runs. But it was Roman who took the two votes, could have been his 360 up the waterfall that was the deciding factor. Albie Livesley 2^nd place. Tyler Gayski had been waiting for his challenger after qualifying in 1^st. Tyler has been riding bmx for a lot longer than Roman and is a lot more powerful in his riding. Roman put up a good challenge but it was a unanimous decision from the judges, three votes to Tyler Gayski. Great riding, good airs and lots of flow gave Tyler the win. Roman Depiazzi 2^nd place, Tyler Gayski 1^st place.

Racking up a respectful 3^rd place. Great riding from the 7 year old radical rider. – fourth place went to over 40 year old Corey Brown. Age is a number and skill is a level. He rode really well in the Rad class and it was awesome to see the father and son battle in the finals.

Jacob Kestel with one of the most raddest moves of the comp. Old school bmxers call this trick a Hanna named after motocross legend Bob Hannah other will just call it a front tyre head butt. Whatever you want to call it is definitely rad.

The RADDEST class

This was going to be one rad competition with a good mix of riders of different styles. In qualifying it was Luke Tooze that was 34 points ahead of 2^nd place qualifier Brad Evans who had 132 points, 3^rd place was Ryan Aqulina 131 points and Jay Roadley qualifying in 4^th place with 130 points. That is a super tight qualifying result. Heading into the battle finals Nick Morgan had to taking on 6^th place qualifier Kieran Ramsay. With 3 judges all voting on Kieran to move onto the next round. Kieran sent flairs and good air and flow as well as a few handplants which sealed the deal for him. Nick rode good but just was airing not as high as Kieran. Nick Morgan 7^th place. Going into the next battle Kieran was taking on Jacob Kestel. These two guys were only 1 point separated in qualifying. Both completely different styles. Jacob rode well in the qualifiers but in the battle finals spent a bit too much time trying to jump from the waterfall hip up and out over the coping to the top of the ramp. Had he pulled that he would have moved up into the next round. Jacob did some awesome tricks in his run though, his downside handplants looked rad just like his head butts on the front tyre jumps and drop ins. Judges gave two votes to Kieran. Jacob Kestel 6^th place. Kieran Ramsey was moving into his third round and had to take on Jay Roadley. Jay had some tech skills that Kieran did not. Jay rode with more variation although Kieran did put up a good fight to progress into the next round but it was Jay that got the two votes from the three judges that sent him into the next battle round. Kieran Ramsay 5^th place.

It was amazing to watch him use his bunny nut out riggers on the coping. A 4^th place to Aquaman. – Big Orse Kieran Ramsey wanted to look at the Scarborough beach bowl from every angle so he did a flair to see how it looked from that angle, when asked did it look any different his reply was definitely did. – Nick Morgan had a heap of fun and won a stack of prizes. He also got rad as well. Thanks for rolling Nick.

Jay Roadley is a technical rider with fantastic skills. He can also grab some great air and did so at the Groundswell Scarborough beach bmx bowl battle and scored himself a 2^nd place in the Raddest class.

Moving into round 4 Jay Roadley was taking on Western Australian BMX legend Ryan Aqulina. Both these riders like to use their pegs and both these rider ride hard. Ryan let loose with some great rad lines and tricks but Jay just had that little bit more. The judges had a bit of time to deliberate as where their votes were going and it was Jay Roadley that would progress into round 5. Ryan Aqulina 5^th place. Brad Evens had qualified in 2^nd and really wanted to keep that place. Jay Roadley had moved up from 4^th place qualifier and now was taking on 2^nd place, he was knocking on Luke Tooze’s door whole Luke was just chillin. Brad Evan rides big transitions loves to do turndowns and one handed flatties and they were abundant in his run. Smooth flow great control and style. Jay Roadley sent it hard and threw in 540’s, flairs and 270 barspins smith stalls. Brad had it almost in the bag with one vote to each rider until the last vote from the third judge went to Jay. Brad Evans 3^rd place. The final battle round was about to begin. Luke Tooze was feeling relaxed and energized while Jay Roadley had just had 3 battle rounds and was now moving into his 4^th. Luke had a relaxed warm up and was ready. Jay sent it hard with bar spins, big 540 in the deep end, a 360 drop in to flat at the small section and a rad barspin fakie to half cab into the waterfall. His two runs were rad. Luke went fast, big griz airs, barspins to x ups gapping the waterfall hip, whips and flairs. At the end of his run the fire brigade had to attend to, Luke was on fire! The judges huddled together to have a chat about what they had just witnessed. They were taking a bit longer than anticipated, while Jay had the tech and tricks, Luke had the speed and flow. The judges announcement came and it was unanimous, Jay Roadley 2^nd place and Luke Tooze the winner of the RADDEST class at the 2020 Groundswell festival Scarborough Beach Bowl BMX battle.

The final battle between Luke Tooze and Jay Roadley is definitely worth a watch.

The Groundswell festival 2020 Scarborough Beach BMX Bowl battle was a rad competition. The format was super engaging for the public to witness, BMX was in the spotlight for many people attending the festival. Many different styles of riding were on display. Freestyle Now skatepark activation sessions – skatepark coaching workshops

Freestyle Now skatepark coaching sessions are all inclusive for all skill levels and ages

At the beginning of 2020 Freestyle Now had a very busy first few months travelling to many locations. Some of the regional Western Australian towns that got to experience Freestyle Now skatepark activation sessions included Lancelin, Collie, Hopetoun, Bremer Bay and Eaton. In the Perth metropolitan area Freestyle Now rolled out the rad at Bullsbrook, Stratton, Guildford, Fremantle, Kalamunda, Altone and Willetton. The skatepark activation sessions were, as always, fun and productive with lots of skatepark participants learning new skills, making new friends and in some locations winning prizes.

The Collie skatepark engagement session were super rad. Freestyle Now did six sessions over January. It ended with a coaching jam session for the last session and we gave away some great prizes. A new level of confidence and skills were gained over the sessions, we could see the growth in the participants and their interactions. All participants were catered for with skateboard, bmx and scooter participants being engaged. Hope to return there soon to help roll out the rad.

Freestyle now squad members Shaun Jarvis, Mitchell Harris, Dylan Reese, Kareece Furneyvall, Luke Tooze and Josh Garwood attended some of the sessions at various times to help others learn how to roll out the rad. At the skatepark activation sessions Freestyle Now used our two main types of engagement, skatepark coaching sessions and skatepark coaching jam sessions. Each of these help target different participants via our engagement.

The skatepark coaching workshops are for participants to attend and learn new skills and gain confidence. These can be done in a formal way, with 5 to 6 participants per Freestyle Now facilitator or in a non-formal way with many participants able to attend, sometimes as many as 50. Each of them has its own benefits. The formal sessions are great for smaller skateparks and are usually hosted when the skatepark is closed to the public (or sections of the skatepark) and gives the participants more time with the facilitators. It is a great way to control numbers at skateparks. The advantage to informal sessions is that the skatepark remains open to everyone and Freestyle Now facilitators move through the participants helping the individuals during the course of the allotted time for the sessions.

One of the aspects of the skatepark activation sessions is to show how to maintain and keep your equipment in good working order. Many participants don’t know how to maintain their equipment. This is an important factor of skatepark participation.

The skatepark coaching jam sessions are a fun way to engage participants with Freestyle Now creating mini-challenges and fun games that the participants can do at the skatepark to win prizes. This all takes place in the backdrop of our facilitators/coaches helping the participants learn new skills, tricks and gain confidence. Some of the challenges might be a long bunny hop, best trick, foot down, and effort recognition which is more aimed at the younger inexperienced participants who can’t do the best tricks. Freestyle Now makes this time a fun interactive experience for all participants including the spectators who can also get involved with cheering for the players in the games.

Most of the Freestyle Now skatepark activation sessions are normally all-inclusive catering for all ages, skills and disciplines (skateboard, scooter, BMX) working on the principle that when possible no one should be excluded. However, there are times when we do offer single discipline only sessions but these are normally formal coaching workshop sessions.

The Stratton skatepark coaching jam session was a great time, thanks to the City of Swan. Lots of fun challenges were done. Prizes were given out to the winners of the challenges. Everyone has a opportunity to participate and try to win a prize, even the participants who are not that confident or don’t have a high skill level. Freestyle Now has a all-inclusive policy to make sure no one misses out on an opportunity to learn, advance or win prizes.

At the Freestyle Now skatepark activation session’s fun is the driving factor. The sessions are informative and motivational. The Freestyle now instructors / facilitators are very easy going and relate to the participants well and let the participants ride at their own level and encourage progression. The workshop sessions are more than just teaching skills. There are many other potential outcomes from attending a Freestyle Now skatepark activation session. Participants learn about using the skatepark safely, skatepark etiquette and equipment care, this information is also given to parents through a parental information session. Skatepark activity involves a lot of body movement and participants learn about how their interaction of body movement with their scooter/skateboard/bicycle is highly important to achieve the skills they are seeking. Skateparks are a place where everyone has the opportunity to participate safely and without prejudice over their choice of discipline or appearance, this message is reiterated at every session. Freestyle Now facilitators are positive role models that participants can look up to and aspire to be, positive peer networks are important. At Freestyle Now skatepark activation sessions participants are given the self confidence to be themselves.

Freestyle Now also offers private coaching session with our squad members. These sessions can cater for 1 to 3 participants in BMX, scooter or skateboard and are generally one to two hours long. Freestyle did a few skatepark activation sessions at the Bullsbrook skatepark and bmx jumps. Squad members Shaun Jarvis, Luke Tooze and Kareece Furneyvall attended on this day and helped the bmx and scooter participants learn new skills. The participants learnt a lot of basic skills, which are the building blocks to more complicated moves.

These tow skateboards were stoked to win some goodies, like a new skateboard deck and t shirt. – The bmx session at the Bullsbrook bmx jumps was a fun time. We got the participants to do things that they normally would not do. This exercise was about concentration on balance and thinking outside of the box. – The Eaton skatepark bmx session had some great participation. Freestyle Now squad members Luke Tooze and Shaun Jarvis helped the skatepark coaching participants learn new skills and gain a higher level of confidence. Confidence is the key to unlocking new skills.

Ronan is a rad young rider and hit up this no hander during a best trick challenge. – The participants at the Guildford bmx jumps coaching jam session had a fun time. Freestyle Now made up a challenge that had teams of three riders. Each team had to include three different levels of riders, super confident, medium level of confidence to gaining confidence. The teams had to make up a run over the jumps and whichever team that the best looking run (having the three riders jumping over the jumps) would win. On this occasion it was the “eye don’t care” team won on a runoff against the “biker dudes” (each team had to come up with a name). Ronan, Campbell and Magnum all won a Freestyle Now “Life without BMX” t shirt. – The Altone skatepark coaching session had lots of participants. Here Luke Tooze who rides bmx is helping scooter riders learn some basic confidence building skills. Jumping into a ramp and landing on the scooter deck with both feet in the right position. Freestyle Now coaches are multi talented and skilled and have the ability to cross over into any discipline. – Kareece Furneyvall engaging with scooter participants at one of the skatepark activation sessions.

Clockwize from top left – The Bremer Bay skatepark engagement sessions were super rad, with lots of participants. One of the challenges we held is a long bunny hop jump. In most cases we put a restriction on the run up so the participants don’t have a lot of speed. This adds a level of difficulty as the slower you go the less of a distance you can jump. This also adds a safety feature into the challenge. We all know the faster you go the harder you fall. – Winners are grinners at Bremer Bay. – The skatepark activation session we held in Hopetoun had many participants. The sessions were staged over two day, one on the afternoon and one in the morning. In the afternoon session we were inundated with participants, most were beginners on scooters. Freestyle now squad member and head coach Shaun Jarvis ended up taking a group of 20 participants and teaching all the basic scooter skills so that they had more confidence when transversing the skatepark. The next day in the morning we held a coaching jam session and gave away some prizes. As you can tell by the skatepark users were stoked. – Skateboarding has a good following in Hopetoun and there were more girls on skateboard than boys. These two girls won a Freestyle Now t shirt each from the different challenges we had set for them to participate in.

Bunbury Action Sports Games 2020 – BMX scooter skateboard competition

Every year competitors look forward to the Action Sports Games and this year was no different. One of the biggest scooter, skateboard and bmx skatepark competition held in Western Australia it had an awesome turn out. With a prize purse of $2000 up for grabs and $2500 worth of prizes plenty of competitors were keen.

The level of competition is forever increasing and it’s great to see younger competitors come up from the beginner into the intermediates and then start knocking on the 1^st place spots in the open class. Once again the level from all the competitors was high and it was great to see some of the competitors who had been attending our coaching sessions also competing in the beginners class. There was plenty of action throughout the day but one of the most action packed was the bmx open class. Three riders were all on fire, Luke Tooze, Fabio Connetti and Jordan Minchin, all three with different riding styles and trick and skatepark lines. This one was a hard one to judge and it was not until all the points were tallied up that we got to see how close they were. With only 2 points between 3^rd and 1^st it was one of the most tightest competitions we have ever had. 1^st went to Luke Tooze, 295 points, 2^nd Fabio Connetti, 294 points and 3^rd Jordan Minchin, 293 points. With 3 judges scoring over three categories and having two runs that’s a lot of numbers to add up and to get scores that close is super rad.

Other notable competitors were Rowan Cosh riding in scooter and bmx, Brax O’brien who attended the Collie coaching sessions and skated well, Kash Toft moving up to scooter open and taking 3^rd, Jeremy Wilson and Tyler Gayski in the intermediate bmx class and Albie Livesley and his progression. Thank you to everyone who attended and come and got rad. We need to give a big shout out to the competition supporters, Colony BMX, Modus Bearings, The 4 skateboard company, Root Industries, Grit Scooters and of course the Action Sports Games.

Freestyle Now hosted another skatepark competition at the Ellenbrook skatepark for bmx, scooter and skateboard competitors. The day as always was action packed with a great turn out with lots of competitors and spectators. A big thank you to the City of Swan for their support and also to our supporters Colony BMX and Grit scooters. Bunbury Action Sports Games returns for 2020

Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware is a multi-action sports event combing BMX, Skate, Scooter and Freestyle Motocross, and an international Pro Wakeboard competition. The event is proudly sponsored by Tourism WA Regional Events Scheme, Drug Aware through Healthway and The City of Bunbury. Event partners: GWN 7, HitFM, Nautique West, Island Apparel, Bayview Bar and Restaurant, Salon Express.

The Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware,now in its third year, is set to return to the vibrant City of Bunbury, Western Australia. Bunbury is one of the few major cities in the world that can boast to having amazing beaches on its doorstep, flanked by an array of beautiful inland waterways. With a vibrant city lifestyle, fine restaurants, a world-class café strip and plenty of accommodation options, Bunbury is the perfect setting for major sporting events, such as the Action Sports Games. Combining wakeboarding, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, BMX and scooter, this action-packed sports event will attract some of Australia’s best action sports stars to Bunbury to compete for a whopping $20,000 in cash and prizes. Koombana Bay will host the world-class wakeboard tournament and Shota Tezuka from Japan, currently ranked 5th in the world, will be back to defend his title.

Early March is prime seasonal weather conditions for the Southwest of Australia, and many of the world’s best wakeboarders, Freestyle Moto X riders, Skateboarders and BMX riders are set to call Bunbury home for the weekend of competition.
Action Sports Games Event Director Tim Thirsk “We are fortunate to receive funding from the State Government through Tourism Western Australia and Royalties for Regions, Drug Aware through Healthway and the City of Bunbury to keep this awesome event on track. We also have amazing support from other event partners, such as the Bayview Bar and Restaurant, GWN7, Nautique West, Island Apparel and a Salon Express.”

On Saturday 29th February, Bunbury will host a major Skateboard, BMX and Scooter skatepark competition with over 120 competitors from all over WA coming down to compete for over $4000 in cash and prizes. The skatepark competition is one of the highlights on the competition circuit with lots of competitors so excited to compete in such a fun and energetic skatepark competition. The day will kick off at 9am with the skateboard competition for beginners, intermediate and open divisions. After a quick lunch break it will then move into the scooter and bmx competition which is expected to finish at 7pm. It will be a long day of thrills and spills.
Freestyle Now head judge and competition announcer Shaun Jarvis “The Bunbury Action Sports games is such a rad competition. So much radenss takes place. Last year was epic, like the 3 way tie in scooter open. It’s such a hard competition to judge as the riding is so diverse and on an insane level. We are looking forward to rolling out the rad once again in Bunbury. Freestyle Now has been managing the Action Sport Games skatepark competitions since they started back in 2011. If your not in Bunbury to compete or to watch then you’re missing out on history in the making.”

The Action Sports Games is a free event, and will no doubt attract a big crowd down to Bunbury for the weekend. Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said he was excited that a high calibre event such as the Action Sports Games was held in Bunbury. “Events that bring such a diverse mix of sports and activities to our City are important for the social and economic fabric of our community,” Mr Brennan said “Bunbury is rapidly becoming a location of choice for major events, which has been a major focus for the City, and we are sure everyone will welcome the competitors and spectators with open arms.”

Kalgoorlie skatepark competition – bmx scooter skateboard competition – November 2019

Freestyle Now once again returned to Kalgoorlie to host a skatepark coaching session and skatepark competition for scooter skateboard and bmx. When Freestyle Now hosts a skatepark competition we always make sure that all disciplines are involved so no participants miss out on rolling out the rad. Freestyle Now has had a long history of holding competitions in Kalgoorlie since 2005. Made famous from the gold rush days Kalgoorlie is 600kms east from Perth. They have one of the best skateparks in Western Australia and it’s always a pleasure to get to ride it. A great community turn out on the day was good to see. Crowd participation at skatepark competitions are important and competitors get amped up when the cowed is cheering and screaming, it makes the competitors want to throw down more. A big thank you to the youth team at the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder for their support and also to our supporters Colony bmx, Grit Scooter and 4 skateboard Company as well as.
