twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad member Tim Rose is currently in America with his Fiancé Ashley and they are getting set for their wedding this weekend. Yes Tim Rose is getting married! Tim is lucky enough to be staying at Ashley’s family home only a few blocks away from the famous Catty Woods trails. Tim has been riding there almost every day and trekking all about some east coast spots. Some of his friends have made the trip over to America for their wedding. Here is what Tim has to say.

Tim Rose Catty woods June 2013

Catty Woods are a legendary location. Tim railing the berm, and you know he is going fast.

“Hey all, everything is going so awesome over here. I’ve been in the states for about 6 weeks now and having an amazing time, it’s the trails season over here so helping the guys at Catty Woods and Posh dial in some of the runs has been a sweet experience. Hats off to the guys who build and maintain at those two places, they have done a ridiculous job. Have been riding every single day over here and have gotten the chance to meet and ride with some really good guys. Was able to catch up with Mike and Jacky Lee while they were in New York so it was good to see some familiar faces on the other side of the world. Ben Roberts flew in last week, being able to show him around and ride bmx together in a different country is crazy. Kie Ashworth, Luke and Jake have just arrived so it was good to go out and party with them.
The other week I was lucky enough to meet Derek Adams from LittleDevil brand, he invited us down his way to ride his local trails and session his backyard. We had a killer day, the trails were so fun. Hip and transfer lines everywhere with a big vert wall at the end. Derek’s yard is a wild set up with trails spines and dirt quarters also leading into a vert wall on the back of his garage. Derek is an absolute legend one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet so BIG thank you to him for another amazing day of riding BMX.
Everything is going really well over here and to top it all off my Girl has finally graduated uni and we’ll be tying the knot in less than 1 week. Looking forward to when my family to get over here to celebrate!!! I will keep ya posted with my happenings, Peace”

Tim Rose FDR June 2013

Tim Rose took the trip down to FDR again and took along Ben Roberts. Such a lucky experience to have had. As normal Tim shredded the place.

“Hi there folks n freaks..well it’s only a few days to go till I head off to Africa for 8 weeks to ride bmx and be idiots. Why Africa ?? You say! Because adventure is the spice of life and the endless virgin spots… FREESTYLE NOW has been a huge factor in us getting to the birth place of mankind, simply by supporting us in our lazy bmx lifestyle and giving us parts and work… The work we do with FN insures the next generation of not being losers… I shall keep you informed on the site of our travels, so be sure to keep looking…until then, fresh spots and fun times you freaks….”

David Pinelli update

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad member David Pinelli recently went over to France to compete in the FISE contest held in Montpellier. David totally shreds on his bike and he is forever expanding his insane trick base. David sent in a few photos and words about his trip, read on.
“Hey guys, Just thought I would check in and let you know what I’ve been up to an all that jazz. Well on the 29th of April I left Perth and headed to Melbourne to stay for a week with one of my close friends. I rode Rampfest pretty much every day with Shannon and Todd Meyn and had such a good time. Then on the 5th of May I headed off to Montpellier in France for the FISE contest with another 3 of my mates. It was a Lonnnnnnng trip but definitely worth it. Such a nice, chilled out place (until bmx park finals that is). I got to ride the park course for 3 or 4 days before the contest began so it was sweet just hanging out and riding. Even in qualifying the crowds were ridiculous. I couldn’t land my last trick to pedals (no foot can can back flip) which I was pretty bummed about but ohh well. I placed 27th out of like 54 riders in the pro class, which even though I wasn’t that happy with my run or my last trick, I’m super stoked about. Just to be there riding with everyone was so sick. The after parties every night were just so ridiculous also haha. Met some of the coolest people that I hope to be friends with for life, had a sweet as trip with some crazy experiences. I really hope to be going back next year. Thanks everyone for the amazing time!! Love bmx.”

From the above photo’s you know David had a blast. Check out the video with his contest run at the 50 minute mark. The contest looked insane.

Broome North West Expo bmx stunt shows

twitterlinkedinmail

At the beginning of May Freestyle Now had the pleasure of travelling to Broome to attend Australia’s North West expo to perform some great bmx stunt shows. Freestyle Now squad members Kie Ashworth, Shaun Jarvis, Dylan Schmidt as well as reserves squad member Laurence Bakewell made the journey, all were ready to throw down some of the radness that Freestyle Now hits at all of the stunt shows. The crowds at the expo were not disappointed.
On the Friday the squad members hosted a skatepark coaching session at the Broome skatepark. It was a long day for all as it was super hot, in the top 30’s, but the participants of the day really got a lot out of the sessions. Many young people in the town were buzzing after the day as they all had learnt some new skills. Later in the afternoon it was time to hit the famous Cable Beach for some swimming. The beach in Broome is so good.

The beach in Broome is so good and the sunsets fantastic.

These four guys left to right Kie Ashworth, Shaun Jarvis, Laurence Bakewell, and Dylan Schmidt.

As the Saturday rolled around it was set up and get on with the job of entertaining the crowds. Again it was super hot about 37 degrees. The squad got down to business and laid down some great performances and the crowds reacted with some noise and after each of the shows was a large poster signing session. As Saturday drew to a close and the shows were done it was time to hit the beach once again and get ready to do it all over again. As sunrise came on Sunday morning it was hot at 9am for the first show. The temperature only went up from there. The Freestyle Now stunt squad again hit all the right moves and put on a great performance of some amazing stunts. With the close of the day the pack up was hard, after 6 shows in the heat of Broome the riders were all feeling it, but as the last bits were packed and done the beach and sunset was calling.

Kie Ashworth clicks a super clean 360 turndown.

As Monday came it was time to take in some well earned rest and relaxation. And when in Broome the only place to do that is at the beach. The guys also visited many of the sights around the town. The squad had a blast in Broome and met stacks of new people. Freestyle Now would like to thank the North West Expo, the Billi for the great accommodation, could not have asked for anything better, Broome Broome car hire as well as all the people who came to the coaching sessions and the shows. We hope to be back again in 2014.

Dylan Schmidt was throwing down super whips like this all weekend in every show. He had this to say about the time up in Broome. “It was a great experience and good times we had, but it’s also so good to travel around Australia with some real close mates! The weather was crazy, 39 degree heat, but still got to throw down in the demos for the hundreds that were in the crowd watching. The trip was mad”

Mount Isa Mega Day Out 2013

twitterlinkedinmail

On the 27th April the City of Mt Isa hosted the Mt Isa Mega Day Out. It is a day of activity for the youth of the city all centered around the skatepark. The main part of the day is the skatepark competition which takes place in the morning. Freestyle Now once again headed to Mt Isa to manage the skateboard, scooter and bmx skatepark competition. the day of competition was great with some good scooter competitors rolling large. Lawerence Moore has been improving no end over the last few years and it showed when he took the win in the scooter advanced class. Coming all the way from Cloncurry, 120kms to the west was Ed Stegman. Ed shredded the park to bits and considering the park in Cloncurry is well below anything remotely good it shows he has some good skills. A first place in the skateboard class. A few years ago Ricky Peel was killing it on a scooter and now he has made the transition to ride BMX. Taking on the quarter to quarter gap with a flip is no easy task but Ricky has it dialed. A first place to Ricky for the 2013 mega day out.
A bit thank you to councilor Jean Ferris for her ongoing support for the youth of Mt Isa, Margaret Diamond for organizing Freestyle Now to be in Mt Isa and also to City of Mt Isa and our supporters Stowaway distribution, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co.

Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Billy Brooks along with good friend Kit McKenna, recently did a road trip of great proportion. They had been talking about it for months, to cycle from Christchurch to Queenstown in New Zealand, a journey just under 500kilomerters. Billy being the videographer that he is has put together this great edit of the trip, highlighting all the goodness that could only be done on such an epic adventure. Upon their return both Paul and Bill had destroyed their rear hubs, a small price to pay for such a good time. Paul sent in a few updates of the trip that you can check. Update 1. Update 2. Update 3

Paul and Bill still riding New Zealand

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Billy Brooks are still on their  riding adventure with all round good friend Kit McKenna. The trio have now made it from Christchurch to Queenstown. A 240 kilometre ride.  Their last day from Cromwell to Queenstown was a bit hard with a strong head wind most of the way. Arriving in Queenstown to it being really cold with some snow (in February?)  The guys have been busy with riding downhill mountain bikes, swimming and riding the skatepark. They also have been riding the famous Gorge trails, what Queenstown is known for. “Bill’s been killing the bowl and Kit’s been grinding everything he sees. I’ve dropped the odd flatland trick here and there, but you’ll have to wait for the video to see it all”Paul Chamberlain.

Clockwise from top left – Billy sipping on water at the rest stop – Kit at the rest stop admiring the view, “We smashed 135km the day after this day and got to Cromwell. Paul and Bill still ride New Zealand

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Billy Brooks are currently in New Zealand on a riding adventure with all round good friend Kit McKenna. After arriving in Christchurch the trio has cycled the 240 kilometers to Lake Tekapo. So far they have been on the ride for four days. The fourth day was a 75 kilometer slight uphill ride, into a hot head wind, to finally get to Lake Tekapo. With some camping at the lake and some rest and relaxation they will be making their way to Queenstown some 275 kilometers away, the harder leg of the journey. Scope the photos that the guys have sent through, they are having a blast by the looks of it.

Paul and Bill ride New Zealand

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad members Paul Chamberlain and Billy Brooks have set off for a 3 week adventure of a life time. The two riders just recently flew from Sydney to Christchurch in New Zealand to set off to ride to Queenstown, some 480 kms to the south. They are being joined by Melbourne rider Kit McKenna for the ride. Their plan is to ride, camp, climb mountains and then arrive at Queenstown to ride the famous Gorge Road Dirt Jump Park. Paul sent in these few photos and words upon their first days of arrival.
“Bill and I arrived in Christchurch and went on a bit sight see ride. We had to wait for Kit to arrive from Melbourne. Christchurch is still mostly a ghost town from the earthquake in February 2011. The dismantling is a really slow process and rebuilding isn’t possible with all the aftershocks. Heaps of cool art spaces have popped through the Gap Filler programme like this place we visited called Pallet Pavilion, the site of a comedy bingo show, plus bar. It’s all palettes! Really cool. Will send more updates over once we have some wifi.”

Paul left and Bill right with their 3 week cycling set up. Below Billy chillin at the Pallet Pavilion.

Paul emailed this photo with the title “stand by me”. Billy on the left, Kit on the right and Paul’s bike in the foreground.
