BREMER BAY SKATEPARK COMPETITION – JANUARY 2023

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now hosted a skatepark competition at Bremer Bay skatepark. Prior to the competition, Freestyle Now conducted a skatepark coaching session, where participants learned new skills and gained confidence in navigating the skatepark. They also received tips on how a skatepark competition is judged and how to plan their competition run. During the competition, many participants put this advice into practice, resulting in an exciting event well-attended by the town of Bremer Bay. All participants received prizes, regardless of their placing, and some even entered more than one discipline, earning them more prizes. Freestyle Now extends our gratitude to the Bremer Bay community resource centre and Healthways for their support, and invites everyone to check our coming events page for more information on future competitions and other events. Be sure to check the past competitions page here page for a full list of all the competitions we have hosted.

Shaun captured at Donnybrook skatepark

Freestyle Now co founder and current CEO Shaun Jarvis, has just released a new BMX video, showcasing his skills and freestyle approach. While travelling with the Freestyle Now team to host skatepark coaching and BMX shows in various locations, Shaun managed to sneak in some flatland sessions at the Perth concert hall and Imax in Melbourne. However, due to limited timing, opportunities to ride the skateparks were scarce. Despite this, Shaun managed to capture some amazing footage, fully embracing the freestyle approach and locking in clips as they happened. The result is a stunning edit that follows the same planning and concept as Shaun’s previous BMX videos, showcasing his skills and passion for the sport.

Freestyle Now recently hosted a BMX, scooter and skateboard incursion for students at the York Primary and High school. The school arranged the sessions with the goal of motivating and inspiring students while promoting the advantages of physical activity for both mental and physical health.

Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis, Oben McHoull, and Amos Hadad attended the day to provide coaching and guidance to students of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders. Freestyle Now supplied a few small ramps and a ledge, along with skateboards, scooters and bikes.  The squad members showed off an array of BMX stunts, skateboard tricks, and scooter moves, motivating the students to attempt them themselves. The engagement sessions were a huge success, with students expressing their enthusiasm and excitement for the sports. Some students even showed potential for becoming skilled riders in the future. Freestyle Now squad member Shaun Jarvis had this to say to the students “We do this not because it is easy, but because it is hard. We fail over and over again, until we succeed. When you learn something new, it is yours, you own it!” Emily Hughes from the Department of Education said “Thank you for coming out, the kids absolutely loved it! We hope to be able to get you back out in the future.” The event was an excellent opportunity for students to explore their interests and gain new abilities. Similar activities can have a positive impact on student engagement and motivation.
