Freestyle Now

Freestyle Now hosted the first skatepark competition at the new Balga skatepark. It was a well attended event despite the 40^c heat. Competitors were told to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen, a 30 minute maximum warm up and two sixty second runs meant they were not out in the heat for long. Sure it was a hot day but nothing can stop the radness from being rolled out. There was a great turn out of competitors in all the divisions. The structure of the skatepark competition was to have the scooter competition first, announce the results and present prizes, then the skateboard competition and finally the BMX competition. This format worked really well over the course of the day. There was so many prizes at this competition that all competitors took home a prize and in some cases two or three prizes. A big thank you goes to the City of Stirling for all their support on this competition

Freestyle Now hosted Bremer Bay’s second skatepark competition for the Bremer bay community resource centre thanks Healthways and the Shire of Jerramungup. The day before the competition Freestyle Now hosted a skatepark coaching session. Lots of participants learnt new skills and gained confidence with navigating the skatepark. Freestyle Now also spoke to the participants about how a skatepark competition is judged and how to plan out a competition run. At the competition many of the participants put this advice to good use. The competition was well attended by the town of Bremer Bay with many spectators and supporters, which was great to see. At the end of the competition all the participants no matter their placing took home a prize. It was also good to see some participants entering more than one discipline, yeah more prizes. A big thank you to the Bremer bay community resource centre. Freestyle Now hosted a skatepark competition at the world famous Kalgoorlie skatepark. One of the best skatepark in the world, it allows multiple users to use the skatepark all at the same time. The skatepark was built in 2001 and then had a major upgrade about 6 years ago. The skatepark is super awesome with great flow. This allows for great competitions and has a large assortment of obstacles and ramps to suit everyone’s styles and skill levels. The lines at the Kalgoorlie skatepark are endless. The competition took place on a Saturday afternoon after Freestyle Now hosted a skatepark coaching session in the morning. A big thank you to the youth team at the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder and also to our supporters Grit Scooter, The 4 skateboard co and Colony BMX. Freestyle Now hosted another skateboard, scooter and BMX skatepark competition at the Bassendean skatepark. This one was a long time coming. The last skatepark competition at Bassendean skatepark was in 2019 and there was one planned in 2020 but bad weather stopped it from taking place and before it could be rescheduled covid restrictions came in. So it was great to host another competition at Bassendean thanks to the Bassendean youth services, Always supporting the skatepark. As always there was a great turnout for the Bassendean skatepark competition with a good number of competitors spread over the three disciplines. The 2021 Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware

The Action Sports Games has been a Western Australians premier action sports event for the past decade. First taking place in Mandurah, then moving to Bunbury and now it is back in Mandurah, one of the most fantastic settings in Western Australia for this type of event. Mandurah has some of WA’s best beaches, incredible inland waterways that are teeming with wildlife and a brand new epic skatepark just screaming for this type of event. Taking place over the weekend of 10th and 11th of April at Hall Park on the Mandurah Western Foreshore. The Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games presented by Drug Aware is one weekend you don’t want to miss. The Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games will be a combination of wakeboarding, freestyle motocross, skateboarding, BMX and scooter events into an action-packed weekend of extreme sports along with the Food Truck Festival and DJ’s keeping the good times rolling all day long. Have a look back to the 2020 Action Sports Games in Bunbury or the last time the Action Sports Games were in Mandurah in 2015

Over the two days the wakeboarding competition will be taking place on Mandjar Bay with freestyle motocross demos sprinkled in throughout the day. With a new skatepark freshly finished the skateboard, scooter and bmx competitions will defiantly be a highlight over the weekend with many top competitors all seeking to compete on such a rad skatepark for the over $4000 in prize money and prizes. With competitors able to enter a range of different classes form the young to the not so young including the pro class, who will be taking home some cash money on the day.

The skatepark action kicks off at 9am Saturday 10^th April with the skateboard competition and then at 1:30pm the scooter competition kicks of running into the last afternoon. Sunday 11^th April will be totally dedicated to the BMX competition. The full skatepark competition schedule and registration link is listed below so be sure to check it and then get registered. As part of the Mandurah Mazda Action Sports Games Freestyle Now will be hosting a skatepark competition for Skateboard, scooter and BMX competitors. There are many different classes for competitors to enter so be sure to check the information and schedules before you enter the competition.

In 2008 Freestyle Now held a competition at the Bridgetown skatepark, one of the first at the then new skatepark. Now just  over 12 years and 5 competitions later Freestyle Now was back to host another skatepark competition. This competition was the sixth one at Bridgetown skatepark and it was just as awesome as the past 5. With a great turn out of competitors and spectators the radness got rolled out by many. Great riding from Jayden. – Seth Jiblet took the win in the BMX open class riding brakeless and chainless. Great flow and smooth riding was one of the key factors in his win. – Noah Almond took home a 5^th in scooter beginners but as you can tell from the photo his determination will defiantly set him up for a win soon enough. – We were stoked to see Cooper Clause compete in Bridgetown and take the 5^th place in skateboard. Cooper is the son of Ben Clause who used to ride for Freestyle Now back in the early 2000’s. Port Kennedy had an old skatepark It was built at a time when it seemed no one knew how to work with cement. The City of Rockingham after years and years finally got the funding to build a new skatepark, and what a awesome skatepark it is. The designers and builders got this one about 90% correct. Good lines, good flow and good a good range of elements. Freestyle Now hosted the first skatepark competition at the new skatepark. As always at Freestyle Now skatepark competitions all disciplines and skill levels were catered for. It was really good to see the great turn out of competitors. She had some great skills and put together a great run around the skatepark – Brandon Newbury won a new skate deck from the 4 skateboard company for winning the intermediate skateboard class – Jack Hoopes travelled the 1 hour long train ride and then the 30 minute pedal from the train station to get to the Port Kennedy skatepark competition. It was great to see that level of commitment. A 2^nd place for Jack along with some great riding. Thanks for coming and rolling out the rad Jack – 1^st place in the scooter intermediate went to Kaden Hodson. With a great mix of skills using many of the different elements of the skatepark, Kaden put together some killer runs. While many riders were focusing on just a few banger tricks and getting their trick list done Kaden focused on flow and a range of skills and tricks all over the park.
