The Freestyle Now BMX Stunt Show was one of the highlights of the 2022 Groundswell Festival, thrilling locals and tourists alike. The talented BMX riders pulled off daring and impressive stunts, captivating the audience with their incredible athletic abilities. Freestyle Now entertained the crowds with the high-energy BMX stunt shows. The passion for BMX riding was evident in every stunt, and the crowd couldn’t help but be swept up in the excitement. Freestyle Now is renowned for delivering pulse-pounding BMX stunt shows, and the performance at the Groundswell Festival was no exception. The riders received a lots of applause and  the festival-goers left feeling inspired and exhilarated. Groundswell Festival 2022 – BMX scooter skateboard Rail Jam

The Groundswell festival was an epic event taking place at the ever so awesome Scarborough beach. The Groundswell festival is a 3 day event including many action sports and music. Its definitely an event you need to attend to feel the hype of the weekend. 2022 saw the inclusion of the rail jam event. BMX, scooter and skateboard athletes sending themselves down the rail at the Scarborough beach skatepark with the hopes of winning $200 cash and some of the prize products. It was a super rad and a loose format. The best trick down the rail, over the rail or on the stairs in the 60 minute jam session was the winner.  The Animal bikes BMX rail jam was won by BMX legend Dempsey winning $200 cash prize. Taking home the in the Urban Artt and Oath Components Scooter rail jam was Will Harrold. The Modus Bearing skateboard rail jam was won by Dani Campbell who was stoked to take home $200. Be sure to watch the below videos to see all the crazy radical action that took place and make it to the Groundswell festival in 2023

Department of Transport Bike Love festival – BMX stunt shows

Freestyle Now teamed up with the Western Australian Department of Transport for their bike love festival. They had been working with Shelly Primary School over a few months implementing a ride to school program. To finish up the program they had the students ride from the school to the Kent Street Weir Park where the City of Canning had just finished installing a new pump track. The students had the opportunity to have Freestyle Now coach them on the pump track on how to ride it safely, it was the first time many of them had been on a pump track. At the lunchtime break Freestyle Now performed BMX stunt shows for the students. It was great to have some Western Australian BMX legends perform in the shows with Ryan Aquilina, Dempsey and Michael Pidgeon. The weather was hot and so were the tricks. Performing in front of school children is always rad as they are so hyped and always keen to make lots of noise.

Helmet safety ain’t no joke – Be sure your helmet is a certified helmet for your safety

Helmets save lives. Wearing a helmet at the skatepark is vital. Wearing the proper helmet is vital. Wearing the helmet properly is vital. Shaun Jarvis runs through helmet information that can either give you a trip to the hospital, stop your riding session for the day, have someone wipe your bum and feed you for the rest of your life, give you a bit of a headache, or let you keep on riding for the day. There is no point wearing an ice cream container with padding, it’s not going to do much. Remember your choice can not only affect you but those around you in the moment and in the long term. Safety never takes a holiday so be sure you have the right helmet that fits right.

Shaun Jarvis November 2022 web play

Freestyle Now co founder 54 year old Shaun Jarvis has put together another web play filmed over October and November. During these two months Freestyle Now hosted many skatepark coaching sessions. After the sessions it was time to get a quick ride in grab a clip and move on. Shaun has been riding bmx for 41 years and it looks like there is no slowing down.

Groundswell BMX Bowl Battle 2022

Luke Tooze rides the Scarborough Beach bowl like no one else. So fast, so large so much flow. 2022 is his third time in a row winning the competition.

The Groundswell festival was an amazing event. Set right on the Scarborough beach, with an amazing bowl, just perfect to a bowl competition. The format was simple, two divisions, The Rad and The Raddest, two runs for qualifying and that set the order for the battle finals. Qualifying was super important, qualify in first and the other riders have to battle their way to take you on. Two riders would go into a battle round, each rider would have two thirty second runs back to back. The three judges would vote who would progress into the next battle round. Loose the battle and you are out of the competition, win the battle you progress to the next round. It was an exciting final to watch, with each class taking alternating turns so rider got to have a rest. You had to be in top form or you got the cut. The highlight of the Groundswell BMX bowl battle was Malachi Pooley in the Rad division. Malachi qualified in 7th place, but battled his way to take home the 2nd place. That’s six battle rounds the young rider hit up, that that’s a lot of riding. It was also so rad to see father and sons competing together, Corey Brown and his two sons Levi and Brody. BMXing families are great to see. Taking the 1st place in the Rad class was Albie Livesley who had the height and the flow that Malachi could not match. In the Raddest class it was great to see Roman Depiazzi sending some great tricks for the thirteen year old. The Groundswell BMX bowl battle was won again by Luke Tooze. His speed and height were no match, that 3 years in a row Luke has won the Groundswell BMX bowl battle. For 2023 will Luke have a worthy challenger? We await for next year to find out. Everyone took home a plethora of prizes thanks to the Groundswell Festival, Colony BMX, Sneaky Wholefoods and Local BMX. This was one rad day for everyone.  All photos Patrick Miller. Albie Livesley is one rad kid, so much speed, flow and style. Congratulation on the 1st place in the rad class.

Malachi Pooley was the riding champion of the day with battling his way from 7th to 2nd in the rad division, that’s a lot of riding.

2022 DownUnderGround – the Australian BMX flatland national championships

After a 2 year hiatus DownUnderGround was back to a physical contest. BMX flatland riders from around Australia and the world converged on Melbourne to partake in one of the hardest forms of BMX riding, flatland. The last physical contest was in 2019 with video contests taking place in 2020 and 2021. DownUnderGround, the Australian BMX flatland national championships took place at Rampfest in Melbourne as part of the Australian BMX freestyle championships. The location was sorted outside to host the competition but in true Melbourne form the weather was not kind. The wind had picked up to gale force conditions so it was decided to move the competition indoors, and go back to the year 2000 and ride between the ramps.The format was each rider having three runs, each up to two minutes long. The lowest score dropped and both remaining runs added together.This was the 14th year for DownUnderGround. It’s a time when friends come together from all over Australia to ride, share tricks have good times and build the BMX flatland scene in Australia. DownUnderGround also has a video contest helps riders earn points toward the year end title.

Clockwise from top left – Gonzalo Bellanti took home the win and year end title once again in the open class – Heru Anwari from Indonesia has been living in Melbourne for a few years now and ripping it up. Only a few points behind Gonzalo for the second place in the open class – Making his way from Indonesia for the contest Botay Agata took the 3rd place in open class and did some crazy switches from the front to back wheel and back again. This Time machine was just one of his spinning tricks – BMX flatland legend Grant Cruise is always a pleasure to watch ride. This funky chicken was prime but his quick spin was one of the contest highlights.

This lard yard was just some of his trickery – Freestyle Now CEO Shaun Jarvis letting go of the bars to grab the pegs, took out the 2nd place in the expert class – from his his home city of Nara in Japan Yuki Tokui proceed to take the 3rd place spot in the expert class – Tom Palonek is back and riding and was great to see him smash out these smith decades to 4th place in the expert class.

Ravensthorpe spring festival – BMX stunt shows

Freestyle Now headed to the south eastern town of Ravensthorpe to perform BMX stunt shows at the Ravensthorpe Spring festival. To start off the afternoon a street parade was held through the main street of Ravensthorpe finishing up at the showgrounds. Freestyle Now performed BMX stunt shows over the afternoon into the early evening. The first show of the afternoon was massive with the whole town coming out to watch thanks to the street parade. Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis and Luke Tooze were joined by BMX legends Ryan Aqualina and Dempsey. The BMX stunt shows were entertaining with great audience participation making lots of noise, helping to bring the hype. Lots of posters were signed and handed out to many spectators which brought even more smiles on faces. Big thank you to the Ravensthorpe Community resource centre to putting on a great festival and for getting Freestyle Now out to entertain the masses.

What is it like to do BMX stunt shows, everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask?

What is it like performing BMX stunt shows? Is it glamorous, is it hard work and is it fun? Freestyle Now, the worlds longest running action sports enterprise, headed to the Melbourne National 4×4 Outdoor show to perform BMX stunt shows and documented the journey to help answer some of these questions you ask. The Melbourne National 4×4 Outdoor show was a three day event with some super rad BMX stunt shows going down. Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis and Luke Tooze were joined by Western Australian show veteran Dylan Schmidt and Australian BMX legend Andrew Ahumada all of whom threw down some amazing stunts and show routines. Be sure to give the video a watch to help answer your questions. One thing is for certain BMX stunt shows are rad.

Targa West Rally BMX stunt shows

Controlled chaos is one way to describe a Freestyle Now bmx stunt show but even in controlled conditions something can go wrong. Luke Tooze making sure Shaun Jarvis keeps his head on his shoulders on this occasion.

Freestyle Now performed BMX stunt shows at the Targa West rally held in the wonderful location of Langley Park in Perth. The weather and location were perfect. As always Freestyle Now set out to entertain the crowds and performed some amazing BMX stunt shows. Freestyle Now squad members Shaun Jarvis, Josh Garwood and Luke Tooze were joined by Western Australian show veteran Dylan Schmidt. It was perfect conditions for BMX stunt shows, blue skys, large noise making crowds and an awesome team of BMX stunt show riders. Lots of posters were signed and handed out to many spectators which brought even more smiles on faces.
