Shaun Jarvis – May 2014 travel video part 2

twitterlinkedinmail

Freestyle Now squad member Shaun Jarvis is having a busy month of May. From heading to Canberra and Melbourne earlier in the month he has just got back from a trip to Brisbane and a long long drive out to Cunnamulla to host a coaching session session for the locals. This weekend Shaun along with squad members Hudson Goodchild and David Pinelli head to Exmouth to get rad with the locals and host another skatepark coaching session. Shaun sent in a few words about his Queensland trip and had put together another travel video.

“The trip out to Cunnamulla was one of the most fun and hectic trips I’ve ever been on. Hectic was the order of the weekend. With an 840kms drive out to Cunnamulla we had planned to set off early, haha plans what are they!!! Along for this trip was Brisbane locals Bradley Spann, Manuel Kovacs and Alex Haim. At 4am I got a phone call from Manuel saying he has a flat in his car and can I pick him up…. So much for leaving Brisbane at 5:30am. After picking up Alex 2 hours late we roll out at 7:30am. The drive was long and we got in to Cunnamulla at 7:30pm just in time to get dinner at the pub before it closed. The coaching session at the Cunnamulla skatepark was one of the raddest, with the youth there so receptive. It was a long day. Sunday morning came around and with not much sleep thanks to the other guests in the hotel we departed back to Brisbane. So about 30kms out of town we get a flat. Some travelers stopped to make sure we were all good, we were, and as they drove off they said have a good day, Brad replied “thanks it can’t get any worse”… wrong. After driving for just over an hour we realized we were not heading east but travelling north. North to Charleville, 200kms north. We did have a rad session at the skatepark though so it was kinda worth it. Arriving back in risbane and dropping off the other guys I got to my hotel at 1am, so Sunday was a long day. Coming back to Perth my flight was delayed so I got an earlier flight, via Sydney, which resulted in a mad rush to get my bike packed. Getting on the plane with only minutes to spare full of sweat form the mad rush. The trip its self was so much fun and Brad, Manuel and Alex were so much fun to hang with and they did such a rad job at the skatepark coaching sessions.  I made another trip video, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the weekend. Stay rad”.

High Wycombe skatepark competition – Round 10 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

twitterlinkedinmail

High Wycombe skatepark hosted round 10 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series. The day was looking a bit gloomy with the weather but with everything in place it was all systems go. There was a good spectator turnout considering the weather situation and after the first round of scooter beginners it decided to unleash from above. With about an hour and a half break in competition while the rain came down and the park dried up it was back into it. Although the beginners only had one round the advanced class did get two rounds of skatepark competition in. Advanced scooter had some big trick thrown down and it was a tough contest between Ben Thomas and Jiordan Giacoppo with only 1 point between them for first and second, Ben took the win. We have to give a big shout out to the Shire of Kalamunda for their support and to our supporters Stowaway distribution, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co for the support with prizes.

The new additions to the skatepark have been rolling for about a year now and the locals sure have made the most of it. Kalgoorlie now has one of the best skatepark in Western Australia, by far. What makes a good skatepark? It has got to have good flow, a good mix of ramps and obstacles be well built and also allowing multiple users without the risk of crossing paths for collisions. The older part of the park is about 12-13 years old now and the new additions have created a large park with good participant use. The new bowl is amazing and has endless flow. On competition day the locals made good use of the new park with many new users showing their skills advancement. There was a good mix of participants in the categories and spectators were good. It is great to see that with the new skatepark the scene in Kalgoorlie is still strong. Mandurah Action Sports Games – scooter competition

twitterlinkedinmail

The 2014 Mandurah Action Sports Games was large. With over 120000 people in attendance over the two days is was well off the hook. With so much to see and do people were everywhere. This year at the Action Sports Games there was the inclusion of the pro scooter competition. This competition was an International Scooter Association wildcard event, with the winner of the competition not only taking home over $1000 but also a direct placement into the world titles happening in August in England. The competition was intense with $3300 prize money up for grabs. The qualifiers took place on Friday night with the top ten earning a place for the semi finals. Come Sunday the semi finals got under way to find the top 5 who would go into the finals. The results of the semi finals were the same as the qualifiers with competitors in the same order. Moving into the top five finals in qualifying order were Matty Ceravolo, Ben Thomas, Dylan Morrison, Billy Watts and in the number 1 spot was Max Peters.

Action Sports Games 2014 Brenton Taylor scooter super grab

Brenton Taylor came in 10th but he had the best super grabs ever over the jump box.

The finals were hectic with it being a close competition. Coming in 5th place was Dylan Morrison. With large airs and multiple combos he was looking good but lack of park use must have held back his scores. 244 points. In 4th place was Matty Ceravolo, who hit the park well and used many of the transitions to his advantage with a good variety of whips and kickless styles definitely helped him move up to 4th place. 251 points. Taking out the 3rd place was Perth local Billy Watts. In typical Billy style he went fast high and kept a smile on his face. He hit the jump box better that most with some awesome style. 264 points. Moving from 4th to 2nd was another Perth local rider, Ben Thomas. He seemed to be holding back in his first finals run but unleashed a large amount of rad in his second finals run. With lots of variety and styles it definitely helped to get him to 2nd place. 265 points. First place was held all weekend by Max Peters. He rode the park like he owned it. Used it for all its worth and hit trick after trick with precision. His banger for both his first and second run in the finals was a front flip drop in into the landing of the jump box. 272 points. First place and $1100 plus the direct invite to the ISA world titles.

Clockwise from top left – 1st Max peters unleashing a corked flair – 2nd Ben Thomas mid whip to bar over the funbox – 3rd Billy Watts 360 nohander – 4th Matty Ceravolo middle of some kickless rewinds

Dunsborough skatepark competition – Round 5 Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series

twitterlinkedinmail

Round 5 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series took place on Sunday 16th February. The sun was out, it was hot, the skatepark was full, there was radness flowing and the spectators were enjoying the action. The day was split into two with the skatepark competition taking place first followed by a bowl jam. The skatepark competition saw all of the usual action, big tricks, some stacks and a large amount of smiles. It was great to see some girls entering into the girls only class at Dunsborough and young 6 year old Isi Campbell took out the win, big future in skating we hope. Local skate shop Soggy Bones gave away a deck just before the Bowl jam. It’s always great to see a heap of people in a bowl fighting for a prize. The bowl jam was rad. Some great moves from the bmx riders, but the skate was epic. Dunsborough has a large surfing community and it seems to have flow on affect with skateboarding as the town has some epic locals. There were good number of young rippers in the skate bowl jam all willing to take on the big guns but it was Ben Dittmer who was without a doubt the winner, with nonstop flow and radness, at one point he did a good 5 minute run in the bowl. The day would not happen if it was not for the City of Busselton and the Busselton youth council and out supporters, Stowaway distribution, Sacrifice scooters and 4 skateboard Co.

Dunsborough skatepark competition 2014

Clockwise from top left – Young Tommy Tunncliffe is rad – Matt Adkins is moving well through the competition scene and only still 14 years old – Laclan Micale has so much power in his skating, everyone loves a good boneless – Safyr Iriks took the 2nd in the girls class and it was great to see her skill.

Dunsborough skatepark competition - Dylan Schmidt 2014

Dylan Schmidt, tailwhip at height 1st place in bmx advanced.

Dunsborough skatepark competition bmx bowl 2014

Clockwise from top left – Dylan Schmidt killed it in the bowl, this flair is just some of the radness he went with for first place and $50 – Shane Ellis took 2nd, he has been riding for a long time and it shows, a mad 450 over the hip to a large case blew out his tyre and stopped him from going onto challenge Dylan for the 1st place – Matt Adkins is only 14 and is already got some mad skills, fakie bars – Riley Cummings was flowing the bowl well and it shows he has been doing so since it opened a year ago.

Dunsborough skatepark competition skateboard bowl 2014

Clockwise from top left – Isi Campbell, yes the ramp look really big but that is because Isi is only 6 years old – Luke Parish had some good lines around the bowl to get the flow for these 5.0’s – Ben Dittmer was the winner of the bowl jam, his runs were epic and so to his smiths – Nic Scheltema like the pocket a lot and was going some great grinds on the coping, this well dipped smith is just some of his ability.

Dunsborough skatepark competition skateboard bowl - Lachlan Micale 2014

Laclan Micale pumped around the bowl a fair bit to get the line to this rad high air.
